Temp Aide - Crewperson
About The Position
Wichita Public Schools is seeking a motivated student intern to assist in the Millings department during the summer months. This position provides hands-on experience in woodworking, fabrication, shop operations and installation while working alongside experienced technicians. The intern will gain valuable knowledge of tools, materials, installation, and shop safety practices in a real-world environment. The student intern will work directly alongside and under the supervision of an experienced shop technician and on their own, when capable. This position may require the ability to operate various equipment in the Print Center, in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with WPS guidelines for equipment use. Some Travel within district may be required.
Requirements
- Current high school student eligible for internship placement
- Interest in woodworking, construction, or skilled trades
- Basic math skills, including the ability to read a tape measure
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions
- Ability to work safely under supervision
- Ability to lift, carry, and move materials (up to 25-50 lbs as needed)
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a dusty environment for extended periods is required
- Must be comfortable standing, walking, and performing physical tasks throughout the shift

Responsibilities
- Assist skilled technicians with cabinet making and millwork projects
- Measure, cut, and prepare materials under supervision
- Read and interpret a tape measure accurately
- Operate basic woodworking tools and equipment with guidance
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow all safety procedures and shop guidelines
- Perform other duties assigned to support shop operations
