About The Position

This role is responsible for courteously and efficiently answering all incoming calls, connecting callers with the correct extension, and taking and relaying messages accurately and in a timely manner. The Telephone Operator will respond to emergencies and urgent calls from patients promptly, directing callers to clinical staff as necessary. Key functions include triaging calls, connecting and transferring calls, setting up conference calls, instructing users on telephone procedures, and reporting telephone and equipment malfunctions. The position also involves providing a pleasant and helpful phone contact for callers, opening and closing the switchboard, and managing the in-house paging system. Additionally, the role includes performing clerical duties as assigned to maintain departmental workflow.

Responsibilities

  • Courteously and efficiently answer all incoming calls and connect callers with the correct extension.
  • Take and relay messages in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Respond to emergencies and urgent calls from patients in a timely manner.
  • Direct callers immediately to clinical staff as necessary.
  • Perform operator functions including triaging calls, connecting and transferring calls, setting up conference calls, instructing users on telephone procedures, and reporting telephone and equipment malfunctions to the appropriate party.
  • Provide pleasant and helpful phone contact for callers.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the switchboard.
  • Responsible for the in-house paging system.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned to maintain workflow in the department.
