About The Position

The Telemonitor Technician provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients. The monitor staff will verbally redirect the patient from engaging in any at risk behaviors by verbal direction using the communication device. If verbal direction is not successful, the monitor staff will call the assigned Ava Sure phone and make the nursing staff aware of the patient behavior. If the patient requires immediate intervention the Stat alarm will be sounded. Monitor staff will be knowledgeable and abide by patient and the HFSC’s confidentiality and related hospital policies. The Telemonitor Technician will be responsible for troubleshooting camera issues and setting up the camera in patient rooms. The Telemonitor will report any camera concerns or down time to the Ava Sure manager or shift manager immediately.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or G.E.D.
  • General knowledge of the hospital setting.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to read, write and understand directions in English.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Basic Computer knowledge.
  • Ability to tolerate up to eight hours of consecutive work.
  • Endurance for up to four hours of constant sitting with ability to frequently change positions and up to one-hour of independent mobility/ambulation.
  • Ability to lift or carry objects up to 10 pounds frequently throughout the day.
  • Ability to squat, reach and bend to access equipment from high and low areas and while providing set up cameras in patient care areas.
  • Functional fine and gross motor skills and upper extremity sensation needed.
  • Intact vision with or without corrective lens needed for observation of patient's non-verbal responses and behavior.
  • Must be able to initiate and interpret communication with patient and others.
  • Flexibility of thought, reasoning, organizational skills and the ability to act in some new or unfamiliar situations.
  • Selective attention and concentration are necessary to complete tasks.
  • Basic formulation, content, syntax and spelling to complete tasks.
  • Spontaneous communication and the ability to receive and convey messages.
  • Ability to comprehend lengthy messages or paragraphs and to follow multistage and three-step commands.
  • Requires a clean and tidy workspace, free of distractions.
  • Working independently in a climate-controlled area.
  • Continuously monitoring 12 or more patients at one time needing to remain alert while on duty.
  • Effectively communicate with patients using a microphone and headset, to staff for shift to shift report and any other communications.
  • Ability to use discretion and courtesy when working with patients, visitors, and staff, maintaining patient dignity and privacy.
  • Efficiency in multitasking.
  • Ability to prioritize simultaneous situations.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year work experience in a hospital environment.
  • Certification (Nurse Assistant / Medical Assistant).
  • Direct patient care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients.
  • Verbally redirects patients from engaging in at-risk behaviors using a communication device.
  • Calls the assigned Ava Sure phone and notifies nursing staff if verbal redirection is unsuccessful.
  • Sounds the Stat alarm if the patient requires immediate intervention.
  • Troubleshoots camera issues and sets up cameras in patient rooms.
  • Reports camera concerns or downtime to the Ava Sure manager or shift manager immediately.
  • Abides by patient and HFSC confidentiality and related hospital policies.
  • Signs into the Ava Sure monitoring system at the start of the shift, completes the start of shift checklist, and signs out at the end of the shift.
  • Provides dedicated attention to observing patients with no outside distractions, including personal cell phone.
  • Secures backup when needing to leave the monitoring station.
  • Demonstrates understanding and proficiency in the use of the AvaSure software.
  • Maintains visual observation at all times.
  • Provides patient with explanations as necessary but does not counsel or provide opinions.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate observation to the patient population requiring Tele Sitter monitoring.
  • Quickly communicates patient behavioral changes with hospital staff.
  • Participates in report with on-coming monitor staff upon arrival for shift and upon completion of shift.
  • Maintains documentation of all patients on monitor.
  • Reviews and shares pertinent information and behaviors.
  • Provides floor staff with information in a timely manner when a patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
  • Participates in collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues.
  • Assures patient environment safety.
  • Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from the room and reports findings to appropriate staff members.
