About The Position

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., certificate of high school equivalency).
  • Successful completion of a cardiac arrhythmia interpretation program (including passing an in-depth arrythmia-specific test using caliper measurements and rhythm changes evaluation over time using full disclosure).
  • Three (3) years of telemetry monitoring experience
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Successful completion of an accredited paramedic or practical nursing program.
  • Two (2) years of emergency medical services (EMS) paramedic field experience (including electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG) teaching experience), or two (2) years of EMS, emergency room (ER), or practical nursing experience (including telemetry).
  • Experience in a clinical or healthcare setting.
  • Leadership experience (e.g., coordinating staff scheduling, workflow, and multiple telemetry monitoring functions).
  • Electronic health records (EHR) experience.
  • In depth knowledge of patient throughput processes.
  • General knowledge of performance improvement (PI) management and Lean techniques.
  • Understanding of telemetry monitoring systems.
  • Familiarity with supply ordering and inventory practices.
  • Strong personal computer (PC) skills; Microsoft 365 (i.e., Word, Flow, Forms, and Excel) proficiency.
  • Effective communication and team building skills.
  • Prioritization and time management skills.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work across all management lines and with medical staff members to promote good inter-departmental relationships.
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy and accountability.
  • National Telemetry Certification (NTC) from the National Telemetry Association (NTA) within six (6) months post-hire.
  • Certified as a paramedic in accordance with Florida Statues (FS), Title XXIX (Public Health), Chapter 401 (Medical Telecommunications and Transportation), Part III (Medical Transportation Services) OR Licensed as a practical nurse (LPN) in accordance with FS, Title XXXII (Regulation of Professions and Occupations), Chapter 464 (Nursing), Part I (Nursing Practice Act).
  • NTC from the NTA at hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the Centralized Telemetry Surveillance Center (CTSC).
  • Oversees monitoring and interpreting cardiac telemetry rhythms accurately in a centralized location.
  • Reports rhythm changes, arrhythmias, or poor signal issues to the appropriate nursing unit.
  • Promotes professionalism, leading through example and encouraging a caring, helpful, responsive attitude to telemetry alarms, monitoring, and colleagues consistently.
  • Supervises and establishes monitor technician functions and assesses employee performance.
  • Oversees ongoing monitor technician education requirements and CTSC quality assurance initiatives.
  • Attends meetings and participates in workgroups at the RN/Director Nursing Practice's direction.
  • Coordinates efficient telemetry services and assists with telemetry justification review (as needed).
  • Promotes a safe environment for patients and colleagues; performs all related job responsibilities safely.
  • Maintains clinical and professional competency and certification(s).
  • Oversees onboarding and precepting new monitor technicians.
  • Orders supplies and manages inventory.
  • Assists with other in-unit tasks as the RN/Director Nursing Practice directs.
