The Telemetry Monitor Technician provides safe and effective monitoring of telemetry patients throughout the hospital and supports timely communication and smooth workflow within the unit and among hospital departments. The role includes interacting with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and care providers; responding to needs communicated through the call system or telephone; managing incoming calls; and maintaining unit logs and documentation. The technician initiates cardiac monitoring upon physician order or approved protocol, enters patient data into the central monitor system, sets and adjusts limits in coordination with the responsible nurse, and monitors waveforms. The technician responds promptly to alarms, recognizes dysrhythmias—including advanced, lethal, or emergent rhythms—and notifies nursing staff. Duties also include validating rhythm interpretations with licensed nursing staff, reviewing and coaching other technicians’ interpretations and reports, preparing shift reports, identifying patients eligible for triage under approved procedures, discontinuing monitoring when ordered, and tracking telemetry monitor use.
