The Monitor Technician is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. The role monitors cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitors and meets the department’s communication needs. The technician transcribes physician orders when CPOE and the EMR clinical documentation system are unavailable, verifies that laboratory and radiology tests have been ordered and completed, and prepares and compiles records in Med/Surg/Telemetry. The position also orders unit supplies and prepares and completes each patient’s chart with the necessary daily forms. The Monitor Technician may assist nursing staff with indirect patient care duties provided this does not distract from the primary responsibility of dysrhythmia monitoring. Direct patient care under the direct supervision of an RN may be provided within the scope of CNA duties only if the technician has active CNA certification, demonstrates annual competency in CNA duties and skills, and is relieved of Monitor Technician duties while assisting the RN. This is a part-time, day-shift position. The posted estimated compensation is $23.00; the exact starting compensation is determined at selection and may vary based on factors including skills, applicable experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
