About The Position

EMCO Technologies currently has an opening for a Telecommunications Technician at the NASA Langley Research in Hampton, VA. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your experience supporting the AEGIS contract.

Requirements

  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and modifies cable systems both copper and fiber.
  • Installs, relocates, and troubleshoots telephones and network connections.
  • Uses engineering drawings, statements of work, and technical manuals to determine requirements for underground, buried, and aerial cable systems.
  • Installations may be internal or external to buildings.
  • Prepares and installs distribution equipment.
  • Terminates cables and wiring on distribution frames, cable boxes, patch panels and/or equipment.
  • Ensures techniques, materials, and accomplishments are according to technical standards, specifications, engineering directives, as well as all applicable laws, regulations, or codes for the authority having jurisdiction.
  • Troubleshoots cable system problems; locates, repairs, and tests to ensure problem resolution.
  • Proven ability to maintain accurate logs of trouble isolation and repair efforts and escalate/communicate issues to management as needed.
  • Independent thinking/problem solving skills and proven ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks with appropriate supervision.
  • A professional attitude and courteous manner toward customers, partners and coworkers is essential.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of Cisco Call Manager and Unity Connection experience or equivalent vocational or accredited education focusing on networking and VoIP.
  • Cisco Network Academy training courses below are preferred; regarded as a plus: Cisco Voice (CVOICE) Course, Cisco IP Telephony I/II Courses (CIPT1/2) or Implementing Cisco IP Telephony/Video CIPTV1 and (CIPTV1/2).
  • Strong telephony related trouble shooting skills.
  • Basic understanding of traditional Public Branch Exchange (PBX) functionality.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with customers and IT infrastructure team members.
  • Cable Plant experience – copper and fiber (manhole, hand-hole and tunnel system).
  • Willingness and ability to work in campus tunnel system in support and maintenance of an emergency telephone network currently present in the campus tunnel system.
  • Collaboration conference room installation and trouble shooting.

Responsibilities

  • Installation, troubleshooting and management of telephony, cable plant, collaboration rooms and network infrastructure for a large campus.
