Serve as the hospital’s telephone receptionist, welcoming patients and other customers by offering service and assistance in a pleasant and professional manner. Operates a computerized telephone console to ensure efficient communications, determines the reason for the customer’s contact, and facilitates communications by answering calls promptly and forwarding calls to appropriate locations. Performs public address and paging mechanisms for contacting hospital personnel and physicians according to established standards. Monitors, assigns, and replaces pagers for staff. Performs a broad scope of technical operations of the telecommunications system, including coordinating with departments for telephone repairs, moves, and/or changes, ensuring callers are informed of procedures for voicemail, paging, and help desk questions. Maintains all paging equipment and emergency radios, and maintains physician log sheets and daily emergency activity log books. Notifies hospital staff of all emergency and critical situations, possessing a complete knowledge of hospital disaster plans and the ability to respond immediately following established procedures and protocols. Records and monitors emergency situations, including fire alarm panel, security panel, hospital panic alarms, Code Adam alerts, 911 calls, and other emergency alarms rapidly according to established protocols. Notifies local police and/or fire when necessary. Summons/dispatches/pages all necessary personnel in an emergency situation (Code Blue, Trauma, Respiratory, RRT, etc.) and records in a daily journal. Acts as an answering service for several departments by locating and paging personnel.
