About The Position

The Lead Site Survey Technician 4 leads field survey teams in operating data centers, central offices, and other telecommunications facilities. This position performs detailed surveys of existing equipment, cabling, pathways, power infrastructure, and site conditions to support engineering design, configuration, integration, relocation, installation, and decommissioning planning. Installation and integration work may be assigned separately within an approved scope and the employee’s qualifications. This position is considered a safety sensitive position and therefore is subject to the company’s drug and alcohol policy and is eligible for random drug testing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum eight years of relevant telecommunications installation, site survey, or engineering field experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience as determined by company management.
  • Prior field leadership experience is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of telecommunications installation methods, low- and high-density fiber systems, copper cabling, AC/DC power, UPS and battery systems, infrastructure, and supervisory or alarm systems.
  • Knowledge of fiber installation practices and experience with applicable fiber, copper, and coaxial cable testing.
  • Ability to read, follow, and prepare MOPs and understand the risks of working around operating equipment.
  • Proficient laptop skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams, and the ability to complete electronic survey templates, organize photographs, and maintain drawing markups.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate site conditions, technical questions, progress, and issues clearly to customers and internal teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a field crew and independently produce accurate survey documentation with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to identify and document power sources and distribution infrastructure.
  • Electrical testing or modifications must be within the assigned scope, applicable qualifications, and approved procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must meet applicable pre-employment background check requirements and company vehicle insurability requirements.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform work that requires a significant amount of walking, climbing ladders and standing.
  • Position requires pushing/pulling equipment (up to 50 lbs.) through assigned facilities.
  • Ability to interpret written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions, exercise sound judgment, and resolve field issues through established processes.
  • Ability to understand and follow company and customer policies, safety procedures, and site access requirements.
  • Accessing confined work areas, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Technical school training in telecommunications, electronics, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead job-start walkthroughs with customers and end users to confirm survey scope, required deliverables, access and escort needs, work restrictions, and site safety requirements.
  • Perform and lead surveys of transmission, data and cloud equipment, AC/DC power, UPS and battery systems, fiber and copper cabling, pathways, grounding, and supervisory or alarm systems.
  • Capture equipment inventories, rack elevations, fiber and copper counts, cable connections, pathway measurements, power-source identification, and grounding observations within the authorized survey scope.
  • Read and interpret job specifications, floor plans, equipment drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, methods of procedure (MOPs), and available test records. Document discrepancies between field conditions and existing records.
  • Prepare complete survey packages, including completed templates, labeled photo logs, marked-up drawings, equipment and cable schedules, and a list of discrepancies, constraints, and unresolved questions. Clearly identify information that could not be verified.
  • Assign daily work, supervise survey team members, coordinate site access and escorts, conduct safety briefings, and track progress against the work schedule. Provide clear updates on completed work, remaining work, and issues affecting completion.
  • Review the team’s field documentation before submission for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with customer requirements. Correct omissions and resolve discrepancies before leaving the site where practical.
  • Perform in-process and final quality reviews of survey deliverables and any assigned installation work. Follow company and customer safety, administrative, and documentation requirements.
  • Equipment, common systems hardware, wiring, or circuit additions, modifications, and removals; software additions or upgrades; equipment testing, turn-up, and integration.
  • Battery additions or removals and work on operating power distribution systems, performed only by personnel qualified and authorized for the specific activity.
  • Supervision of high-risk activities, hot cuts, and cutovers; crew work assignments; customer coordination; drawing corrections; and in-process and final quality inspections.
  • Takes ownership of daily survey activities, assigned crew members, customer coordination, and the accuracy and completeness of the survey package.
  • The lead identifies discrepancies, access constraints, and execution risks and escalates items requiring engineering or customer direction.
  • Coordinate with customers, vendors, engineering, and project management to resolve scope or drawing questions through defined processes. Escalate items requiring approval or technical direction.
  • Maintain required company and customer records, drawing updates, work schedules, MOPs, risk documentation, test records, and completion reports as applicable. Review assigned team members’ time and expense documentation for accuracy.
