About The Position

As a Telecommunications Cable Installer I, you will play a vital role in supporting the installation and maintenance of telecommunications cable systems, including fiber optic and copper cables. Working under the supervision of senior installers or project managers, you will assist in the installation, testing, and repair of cable systems, ensuring the integrity and reliability of telecommunications networks. This position requires a willingness to learn, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certification or coursework in telecommunications, and/or equivalent related experience.
  • Basic understanding of telecommunications cable systems, including fiber optic and copper cables.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity, with the ability to use hand and power tools effectively.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work outdoors and in confined spaces, as well as the ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Ability to climb utility poles and ladders up to 40 feet using proper fall protection equipment.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally heavier loads with assistance.
  • Manual dexterity to operate hand and power tools, handle small components, and complete fine motor tasks.
  • Visual acuity required to read blueprints, operate machinery, and perform detailed work.
  • Ability to hear and understand verbal instructions and communication in noisy work environments.
  • Must be able to wear and work in required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, high-visibility vests, and climbing gear.
  • Ability to drive and operate company vehicles and trailers, with or without towing, as required.
  • Extended periods of driving and working in elevated positions may be necessary.
  • May be required to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods depending on the nature of the worksite and duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation and routing of telecommunications cables, including fiber optic and copper cables, in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Follow installation plans and blueprints to route cables according to project specifications, ensuring proper placement and alignment.
  • Assist in terminating and connecting telecommunications cables, including fiber optic and copper cables, using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Ensure proper alignment, splicing, and termination of cables to maintain signal integrity and minimize signal loss.
  • Assist in conducting cable tests and measurements to verify signal strength, continuity, and quality, using specialized testing equipment.
  • Identify and troubleshoot issues related to cable connectivity, signal loss, or other technical problems encountered during installation or maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of cable installations, terminations, and tests performed, documenting findings, observations, and corrective actions taken.
  • Complete required documentation and paperwork associated with installation and maintenance activities, including work orders, test reports, and inspection logs.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures while working in the field, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements related to cable installation and maintenance activities.
  • Serve as the lead technician for customer-facing service installations and repairs involving TV, internet, Wi-Fi, phone, and security equipment.
  • Oversee customer interactions to ensure professionalism, technical accuracy, and service excellence.
  • Mentor junior staff on proper in-home service procedures, customer etiquette, and troubleshooting best practices.
  • Resolve escalated customer concerns and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality services across all service visits.
