About The Position

Performs straight forward network architecture assignments under moderate direction. Uses knowledge to support the planning, researching, evaluating, designing, and developing network systems. Participates in configuration, installation, and performance analysis of networks. This role involves the design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance analysis of AEP's intermediate and enterprise telecommunication networks and systems. The consultant will follow policies, practices, procedures, standards, and company rules, and comply with regulations and procedures required by external agencies. Responsibilities include preparing cost estimates, documenting project work, analyzing network performance, troubleshooting technical problems, and applying economic analysis techniques. The role requires demonstrating knowledge of AEP networks, components, and facilities, understanding AEP's organizational structure, and collaborating with others. Additionally, the consultant will provide cross-training, initiate corrective action, communicate effectively, extrapolate beyond known facts, satisfy internal and external customers, lead meetings, and seek opportunities to increase job knowledge and technical skills.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study or Associate's degree in field mentioned above with 2 years of relevant work experience or HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience required.
2 years of relevant work experience in addition to any experience mentioned above.
Valid Driver's License is Required.
Possess intermediate level knowledge of communications technologies and inter-networking principles.
Demonstrate competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle assignments of moderate complexity. (e.g., by dividing the problem into component steps, and performing the analysis necessary to complete each step.)
Exhibit understanding for pertinent telecom equipment, materials, systems and business processes.
Exhibit ability to understand interrelationships between systems and component equipment.
Demonstrate ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes.

Responsibilities

Participates in design, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance analysis of AEP's intermediate and enterprise telecommunication networks and systems.
