About The Position

This position will directly support the enterprise network transport operations. Participates in the installation, configuration, and performance analysis of transport network technologies with a primary focus on operation and maintenance for transport networks to include; Fiber Optic Cable, DWDM, Ciena, Nokia, Ribbon, Icons, Microwave (Aviat), and P25 radio systems. Candidate should have a strong understanding of transport network and demonstrate the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, coordinate, and resolve complex issues and projects.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, telecommunications, or related field of study Or Associate's degree in field mentioned above with 2 years of relevant work experience Or HS diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant work experience required.
2 years of relevant work experience in addition to any experience mentioned above.
Valid Driver's License is Required.
Possess intermediate level knowledge of communications technologies and inter-networking principles.
Demonstrate competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle assignments of moderate complexity. (e.g., by dividing the problem into component steps, and performing the analysis necessary to complete each step.)
Exhibit understanding for pertinent telecom equipment, materials, systems and business processes.
Exhibit ability to understand interrelationships between systems and component equipment.
Demonstrate ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes
Demonstrate the ability to extrapolate beyond known facts to reach logical conclusions.
Demonstrate an attitude and desire to listen to and satisfy both internal and external customers who use and depend upon their organizational unit

Responsibilities

Support AEP Fiber Optic, Microwave and P.25 800Mhz radio systems (Transport Systems).
Shared 24x7x365 on-call with 6 other engineers
Break/Fix support of AEP Transport network systems
Remotely support project-based field change control work associated with deploying Fiber Optic, Microwave and P.25 radio systems
Follow the AEP change management process and AEP standard for changing any configuration in the network including peer reviews on field transport impacting changes
Documentation upkeep – ServiceNow Asset, Monitoring Systems, Process Docs, Timekeeping, Goal Performance, Status Reporting, Change Control, Project Task and time scheduling management/meetings
Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide 24x7 support.
Collaborate with others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity as necessary to complete routine activities
Provide cross-training to other employees as assigned
Initiate corrective action when project objectives are not being met
Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
