About The Position

The Teen Tech Center Assistant supports the Center's daily operations, working alongside the Coordinator to support youth engagement, provide technical assistance, and facilitate programs. This role requires a passion for technology, creativity, and youth development, helping young participants explore projects in music, digital media, robotics, and more. The Tech Center, established with support from The Clubhouse Network, offers young people (ages 10 to 18) the opportunity to work on projects that are meaningful to their lives using computers and technology. The program provides support and resources to help young people pursue their interests and build on their talents. In the Teen Tech Center, youth can design their own music, art, newsletters, robots, science simulations, computer games, and animations, and we are looking for someone who can teach the teens and help bring these programs and projects to life.

Requirements

  • Proven experience supporting youth in mentorship or informal learning environments, particularly those from underserved communities.
  • Background in informal, technology-focused learning environments, assisting youth in developing creative and tech-based projects.
  • Familiarity with technology, digital arts, or music production and willingness to help youth explore these areas.
  • Strong relationship-building skills that foster collaboration with youth, parents, educators, and community leaders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a talent for fostering inclusive and welcoming environments where youth feel supported.
  • A passion for learning and mentorship, with a commitment to youth development.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team environment, contributing to a positive atmosphere.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to drive a passenger van, with a valid WA driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma.
  • Must pass a National Background Check.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months to a year of previous experience working in a Boys & Girls Club or similar youth development setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Coordinator with the daily operations of the Teen Tech Center, ensuring the smooth execution of activities, youth engagement, and resource management.
  • Provide direct program support by helping Teen Tech Center members brainstorm project ideas, gather materials, initiate their work, connect with mentors, develop creative and technology-driven projects, and support their ongoing efforts.
  • Support volunteer mentors by ensuring they receive adequate support and are equipped to work effectively with youth.
  • Help youth plan for the future by exploring academic and job opportunities that utilize their skills and experiences acquired at the Teen Tech Center.
  • Perform basic technical maintenance and troubleshooting, including file management, system upkeep, and software support, under the Coordinator's guidance.
  • Represent the Teen Tech Center by participating in The Clubhouse Network meetings, engaging in discussions, sharing insights, and supporting collaborative projects across different sites.
  • Support other programs and activities of the Club with Teen Tech Center expertise and resources, as time permits, drawing on support from the Work Force Development team, drop-in staff, and Teen Services Director.
  • Provide administrative assistance to the Coordinator to facilitate program improvements, organizational tasks, and mentorship initiatives.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development by attending BGCB training sessions and the annual Clubhouse Network conference in April.
  • May be asked to perform tasks not listed here and to provide coverage at other sites occasionally to maintain staff-to-youth ratios.
