Richland Library is seeking to hire a Full-Time Teen Center Librarian at our Southeast location. This role involves demonstrating enthusiasm, strong customer service, and a commitment to serving diverse customers. The Teen Center Librarian will build and create programs and services tailored to the needs, interests, and concerns of teens, reflecting current trends. This position supports initiatives to expand teen services, works with a Teen Services Committee for a cohesive approach, and collaborates with the Youth Collections Librarian to market collections and connect with programs. Responsibilities include preparing and supporting teen content on the Library’s website, developing technology and gaming programs, and coordinating with branch staff to create an inviting space for teens. The role requires knowledge of public library systems and operations, performing professional library duties such as answering reference and technology questions, and interpreting library policies. Additionally, the position supports management in hiring, training, and supervising staff and volunteers, answering directional and informational questions, resolving customer issues, and enforcing the Library Code of Conduct. Collection maintenance, outreach efforts, collection development, and administrative activities are also part of the role. The Teen Center Librarian will perform start-up or closing tasks, gather statistics, utilize technology for various tasks, and ensure the library interior is clean and inviting. Serving as a liaison to committees, coordinating special projects, and recommending operational changes are key duties. The role may involve assisting with budget requests and coaching staff or volunteers. Adherence to safety guidelines and protocols is mandatory. This position may require working nights and weekends and managing operations in the absence of higher-level staff. Other responsibilities include delivering presentations, analyzing statistics, consulting with Teen Contacts and Teen Advisory Boards, ensuring programs reflect community diversity, coordinating with the Volunteer Coordinator, establishing and analyzing youth service measurements, and representing the Library locally and regionally. The role requires keeping informed of professional developments and performing other associated duties as required or assigned.
