About The Position

Position Summary: Responsible for support of operations in Youth Services and its service to teens under the direct supervision of the Teen Lead Librarian. Duties to include performing public service desk duties, assisting with teen programming, participating in community outreach programs, providing reference and reader’s advisory services, and assisting in the development and maintenance of teen collections.

Requirements

• Actively enrolled in a Master’s degree program from an ALA accredited library school with coursework pertaining to youth library services.
• Basic knowledge of library operations.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patron service; assists in the location of materials, responses to reference and reader advisory questions; instructs patrons in the use of all library resources.
• Assists in the planning, creation, facilitation, and evaluation of innovative and engaging programming for youth and their caregivers.
• Participates in the development, maintenance, and management of Teen collections; including reviewing new materials, selection activities, ordering processes, and weeding projects in accordance with established guidelines.
• Represents KPL at community and outreach activities and events for youth.
• Contributes to KPL’s online presence as assigned.
• Participates in departmental meetings and library-related events.
• Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
