About The Position

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Teen Director for the Staten Island Broadway YMCA. This full-time, salaried position is responsible for leading the management and implementation of all teen programs at the branch. The role involves staff management, program development, budgeting, outreach, recruitment, and fostering community partnerships, particularly with local schools. The impact of teen programs will be measured and monitored for continuous improvement. Programs operate during the school year (concurrent with school day, after school, and Saturday evenings) and during the summer (Saturday evenings). The Teen Director will also supervise all teen travel, including overnight and multi-day trips. Potential program areas include Y Saturday Night Lights (SNL), Y Scholars, Teens Take the City (TTC), Rowe Scholars, Leaders Club, and the Teen Center.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with teens/youth and planning activities.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience supervising community-based youth programs and experience developing programs.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Knowledge of the development and administration of youth programs, supervision, and contract management required.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and comfortable working with multi-cultural youth and adults.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree in Education or Social Work is desired.
  • CPR, First Aid, or AED trainer preferred.
  • Knowledge of AS400, budgeting, and public policy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, select, develop, train, and supervise staff.
  • Supervise and support staff in implementing diverse teen programming, including robust data tracking and maximizing funded contracts.
  • Manage administrative data entry in various systems (Youth Service.NET, AS400), coordinate participant paperwork, conduct program surveys, and fulfill requirements from City agencies and YMCA's Teen Standards.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of participants through close supervision of all activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement program registration, programming, workshops, and special events with support from part-time Teen Advisors.
  • Directly facilitate teen programming in lieu of a Teen Advisor when a position is vacant.
  • Ensure programming is led with a focus on Social Emotional Learning and skill development.
  • Lead marketing and distribution of program information and help compile program statistics.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  • Establish and maintain links with service providers, including other CBOs, schools, and partnerships.
  • Attend designated meetings, training sessions, and special events related to teen programming.
  • Act as the liaison to the YMCA of Greater New York regarding teen issues.
  • Provide support to the Youth & Family Director regarding staff management and scheduling.
  • Manage adolescent behavior with respect, maturity, compassion, and encouragement.
  • Create and support an environment that is diverse, culturally sensitive, and relevant to the needs of teens.
