About The Position

The Ticonderoga Teen Center aims to provide safe, creative, exciting, and age-appropriate programs for youth aged 13 to 18. The ideal candidate will work with and mentor program participants. This is a seasonal position running from September through May, with a potential transfer to the Silver Bay Summer camp at the end of the assignment.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to enforce rules in a professional and positive manner.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers, children, volunteers, and parents from a diverse community.
  • Willing and able to complete Child Abuse Prevention and other Y training within 14 days of hire.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in implementing fun, meaningful, and age-appropriate programs for youth and teens.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a flexible weekly program offering supervised teen center activities, including lock-ins, dances, and leadership development for youth ages 13 to 18.
  • Use planning and organizational skills to prepare supplies for daily activities, and lead and participate in those activities.
  • Meet with the Youth & Teen Coordinator weekly to discuss youth participation, review issues/concerns, and coordinate programming.
  • Keep an accurate attendance list of teen participants in each program and return all attendance records to the Youth & Teen Coordinator.
  • Participate in group training programs for emergency procedures and other activities scheduled by the Youth & Teen Coordinator.
  • Assist the Youth and Teen Coordinator with parent/guardian communications and publications, including monthly calendars and newsletters.
  • Maintain Silver Bay YMCA’s commitment to customer service by being punctual, prepared for programs, and friendly to staff, youth, and their parents/guardians.
  • Be responsible for keeping participants signed in and knowing their locations at all times.
  • Oversee opening and closing procedures in the absence of the Youth and Teen Coordinator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Youth & Teen Director.
