[Spring 2027] Technology Services Intern

About The Position

The Whitney seeks a Technology Services Intern for the spring 2027 semester. This is a semester-long paid internship for rising Juniors and above (including Graduate students) enrolled in an accredited academic program. The internship is in-person and onsite, with interns committing between 16–21 hours per week over 10–12 weeks for a total of 176 hours. The official program dates will span from January 18-April 26, 2027. Interns will be assigned to a specific department at the Museum for the duration of the internship. The goal is to build and document one or two solutions from an idea list, resulting in a portfolio of work that real people depend on.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate junior or senior, or graduate student.
  • Enrolled in an accredited academic program.
  • Hands-on experience using an AI assistant such as Claude to write code or documentation, with examples to show and the ability to explain the approach taken.
  • Clear written English.
  • Ability to explain a technical step to a non-technical reader.
  • Comfortable finishing something small rather than starting something large.
  • Coursework, personal projects, hackathons, and open source contributions count as evidence of ability.

Nice To Haves

  • Computer science, information systems, digital humanities, museum studies with a technology focus, or a related field.
  • Able to write and debug a script in at least one language, PowerShell or Python.
  • Interest in museums, cultural institutions, or nonprofit technology.

Responsibilities

  • Build solutions from the Technology Services Idea Management list, scoping them down to be finishable within the term.
  • Build solutions which may include PowerShell or Python scripts, Power Automate flows, SharePoint pages, Freshservice workflows, or small web pages.
  • Test built solutions with a staff member who has the problem before considering them complete.
  • Hand over working solutions, documentation, and a walkthrough at the end of the term.
  • Write staff-facing knowledge base articles for built solutions and existing undocumented fixes, following the department’s established format.
  • Submit articles through the department’s documentation repository and review process.
  • Use AI tools like Claude for drafting, code generation, troubleshooting, and documentation, and be able to explain the approach taken.
  • Write effective prompts for AI tools that carry enough context to produce usable results.
  • Verify AI-generated outputs by testing code, checking facts, and reviewing documentation before publication.
  • Report on instances where AI provided incorrect information to inform team practices and the museum’s AI enablement work.
  • Attend the Technology Services weekly team meeting and provide updates on progress and blockers.
  • Keep assigned ideas current in Asana to provide status visibility.
  • Flag any discovered issues or opportunities that should become new ideas or tickets.
