Technology Operations Lead

MarketWiseBaltimore, MD
Hybrid

About The Position

The Technology Operations Lead serves as the execution and coordination hub of the MarketWise Publishing Group Technology team. This role is the connective tissue between the CTO, the Director of Technology Operations, and the professionals and external partners that make up the technology organization. It is not a traditional project management or product management role. The primary responsibility is running the day-to-day business of the tech team: ensuring projects stay on track, people have what they need, vendor relationships are managed, cross-functional coordination is healthy, and leadership has the information needed to make good decisions. The right candidate is a natural organizer and communicator who builds trust quickly, thrives in complex environments, and takes genuine satisfaction in helping a team function better. This role is based in our Baltimore office and will require in-office presence at least 3 days per week.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in an operations, project management, or business operations role, preferably within a technology, SaaS, or media/publishing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex, multi-workstream projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience managing or coordinating external vendor and contractor relationships, including contract and deliverable tracking.
  • Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, Asana, or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive-level communications and status reports.
  • High emotional intelligence; able to build trust with technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment where processes exist but are continuously evolving, and where assessing, refining, and improving how things work is expected.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or media/publishing technology organizations.
  • Background coordinating between editorial or content teams and technology teams.
  • Familiarity with offshore or distributed team management.
  • Experience in people operations, HR coordination, or talent acquisition support.
  • PMP, Scrum Master, or equivalent project management certification.
  • Prior experience within a multi-brand publishing or financial media organization.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clear, current view of all active initiatives across the Technology team.
  • Own team project tracking systems (Jira, Confluence, or equivalent); ensure adoption, hygiene, and consistent use.
  • Coordinate sprint planning and release cadence alignment across product, data, and development teams.
  • Facilitate the intake and approval process for new work requests entering the team’s queue.
  • Surface blockers, dependencies, and risks to the CTO and Director of Technology Operations proactively.
  • Drive follow-through on commitments across teams without requiring executive escalation.
  • Serve as the operational point of contact for team members on day-to-day logistics, processes, and coordination.
  • Lead job description development and revision in collaboration with department leaders and HR.
  • Coordinate new hire onboarding: logistics, system access, orientation scheduling, and ramp-up support.
  • Support the annual performance review cycle; ensure materials are collected and timelines are met.
  • Track headcount and open roles; coordinate recruiting pipeline management with HR.
  • Own day-to-day coordination with the iTransition offshore organization: resourcing, access management, hours tracking, and communication.
  • Manage the administrative aspects of active contractor relationships and transitions as directed.
  • Track contracts, renewals, and vendor invoicing; flag issues and escalate to the Director of Technology Operations as appropriate.
  • Serve as the primary operational liaison between the Technology team and cross-brand stakeholders, including Editorial, Customer Service, Marketing, and publishing teams.
  • Represent the Technology team in cross-functional meetings where CTO- or Director-level presence is not required.
  • Ensure cross-team commitments are tracked and honored; close the loop on open items.
  • Support cross-brand integration and scaling efforts as the consolidated MPG Technology team continues to mature.
  • Prepare regular executive summaries and status reports for leadership to share with stakeholders across the organization.
  • Draft team-wide announcements, process communications, and meeting agendas.
  • Maintain a structured communications cadence so all brand stakeholders are kept informed without requiring ad-hoc escalations.
  • Support budget tracking and resource allocation reporting.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary starting at $105,000-$128,000 commensurate with experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, 401 (k) match, and 12 paid company holidays.
