About The Position

Smart Design is looking for a technology intern to join our team! This role involves developing cutting-edge technology with multidisciplinary teams, solving both technical and human-centric problems with engineers and designers, and working on products that make lives better. The ideal candidate has experience in software development with the ability to stretch into electrical design, and an interest across the whole technology spectrum from hardware to software development. We are seeking someone excited by new ideas, with an eye for detail, and a desire to work with designers/mechanical engineers. The office is based out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Brooklyn NY. Interns must be onsite a minimum of three days per week and possibly more as projects require.

Requirements

• Some educational background in systems engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, robotics engineering, or other relevant programs
• The ability to partner with designers or product managers to work through technical feasibility and tradeoffs
• A solid grasp of programming, digital, and physical fundamentals
• Understanding of agile processes in software development
• Experience with programming within a Linux environment in Python and/or C++
• Experience working with version control software such as Git
• Fluidity in picking up new tools and technologies

Nice To Haves

• Experience with hardware such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi or custom microcontrollers
• Knowledge of AWS infrastructure/DevOps
• Interest in machine learning and computer vision (Anaconda, Pandas, NumPy and Sci-kit)
• Interest in PCB design and manufacturing, and hardware prototyping skills (soldering, PCB assembly and debugging, building wire harnesses, designing mechanical hardware)

Benefits

• Intern rates depend on educational level and will fall between $20-24/hour depending on education level ($22 for bachelor's and $24 for master's degree)
