About The Position

Smart Design is looking for a technology intern to join our team! This role is for individuals interested in developing cutting-edge technology while working with multidisciplinary teams. The intern will solve both technical and human-centric problems alongside engineers and designers, working on products that aim to improve lives in a meaningful way. The ideal candidate has experience in software development and is able to extend into electrical design, with interest and experience across the entire technology spectrum from hardware to software development. We are seeking someone excited by new ideas, with an eye for detail, and a desire to collaborate with designers and mechanical engineers.

Requirements

• Some educational background in systems engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, robotics engineering, or other relevant programs.
• A solid grasp of programming, digital, and physical fundamentals.
• Understanding of agile processes in software development.
• Experience with programming within a Linux environment in Python and/or C++.
• Experience working with version control software such as Git.
• Fluidity in picking up new tools and technologies.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with hardware such as Arduino, Raspberry Pi or custom microcontrollers.
• Knowledge of AWS infrastructure/DevOps.
• Interest in machine learning and computer vision (Anaconda, Pandas, NumPy and Sci-kit).
• Interest in PCB design and manufacturing, and hardware prototyping skills (soldering, PCB assembly and debugging, building wire harnesses, designing mechanical hardware).

Responsibilities

• Partner with designers or product managers to work through technical feasibility and tradeoffs.
• Program within a Linux environment in Python and/or C++.
• Work with version control software such as Git.
• Pick up new tools and technologies.

Benefits

• Intern rates depend on educational level and will fall between $20-24/hour depending on education level ($22 for bachelor's and $24 for master's degree).
