About The Position

As part of the Education, Innovation, Programs and Services Branch, you will work in the Career Pathways Division to provide direction and integrated leadership to the Regional Centres for Education (RCEs) and le Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) regarding the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of policies, guidelines, programming, and services. The Provincial Technology Education Consultant’s primary responsibility will be supporting Technology Education (Tech. Ed.) and Trades-Related Learning in Nova Scotia Public Schools. They will work collaboratively with the Career Pathways team, provincial Youth Pathways Consultants, EECD colleagues, and external partners to support the academic achievement and well-being of all students. The Provincial Technology Education Lead reports directly to the Director of Career Pathways. Requirements

  • Certificate of Technology Education (NSAC) with a Bachelor of Education; a Bachelor of Education with teachable in Technology Education; or Diploma in Technology Education and a Master of Education degree or equivalent.
  • A minimum (8) eight years experience teaching in a wood production lab and experience with the operation and maintenance of dust collection systems (DCS).
  • Extensive knowledge of the Nova Scotia Technology Education curriculum and the importance of trades-related learning.
  • Strong decision-making and leadership skills.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, communication, research and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups, community partners/members and colleagues.
  • Valid driver’s license as travel is required across the province.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an education leadership role.
  • Sound knowledge of machine and tool safety and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in experiential and community-based learning.
  • Credentials in project management.
  • Bilingualism (fluent in French and English).

Responsibilities

  • Support grades 7-12 technology education curricula (Technology Education 7-9, Construction Technology 10 & 12, Exploring Technology 10, Communications Technology 11 & 12, Design 11, Electrotechnologies 11, Energy, Power & Transportation 11. Production Technology 11 & 12, Audio Recording and Production 12, Film and Video Production 12, and Multimedia 12).
  • Support technology education curriculum development and renewal.
  • Liaise with RCEs/CSAP and school safety committees in relation to dust collection systems, hot work, training for production lab equipment, etc.
  • Support and maintain Safety-Net Training, Safety Protocols in Skilled Trades and Technology Education, and Hot Work Procedures in NS Public Schools.
  • Support new school planning/construction by providing expertise regarding Technology Education learning spaces and required tools and equipment.
  • Support the implementation of the High Skills Major (HSM) Program in pilot schools.
  • Liaise with other government departments, industry and organizations.
  • Technology Education facility support (learning spaces, equipment, and related safety requirements).
  • Support Ministerial Mandate priorities related to skilled trades and related learning.
  • Investigate and strengthen post-secondary options for technology education and skilled trades teacher training.
  • Assist with career readiness and resource development.
  • Assist with expansion of community-based learning opportunities and partnerships in areas related to subject specialization.
  • Manage and analyze technology education data to support program planning, reporting, and decision-making.
  • Contribute to internal and external reports, briefings, and planning documents related to trades-related learning and career pathways.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
