About The Position

The Technology Development Engineer (TDE) role is to create new designs in targeted customers through key product positioning and supplier strategy implementation. The goal is to convert these designs into increased sales with good profitability, protected by the supplier design registration program. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Electronics required; or a Bachelor’s degree in a closely related engineering field accompanied by a minimum of 5 years of related experience in technical support within a distributor or relevant supplier or in a design function for the relevant product technology.
  • Extensive product and technical knowledge within the distribution industry.
  • Customer and application knowledge within the given region or country of responsibility.
  • Experienced in the NBO Identification and Development process at a customer level.
  • Strong organizational skills to set priorities, methodical approach and project management skills.
  • Must be a Team player working proactively with other TSE’s and the Outside Sales team in the region.
  • Good sales and negotiation skills.
  • Self-motivated and driven, able to work from home office.
  • Good Presentation and Mentoring skills required.
  • Strong verbal/written communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical skills for setting local / regional strategies and measuring success and results.
  • Strong verbal and written English language skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and High skill level of all relevant IT systems and MS Office applications.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License, safe driving record and be insurable by the Companies’ liability carrier.
  • Requires travel (~50%), amount varies depending on territory assigned.
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee).

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical product, application, and supplier strategies in collaboration with the Director Technical Sales & Marketing or supplier marketing manager.
  • Work closely with Regional Sales teams to define target customers and develop regional/local customer plans.
  • Jointly visit customers with Outside Sales teams and strategic suppliers to execute the design-in of focus products.
  • Drive customer visit activity to engineering independently as needed.
  • Evaluate new potential customers and support customer design locations that may procure products from TTI elsewhere.
  • Keep the allocated Outside Salesperson informed of design strategy and project updates.
  • Monitor activities against defined plans using CAM and OMS reports.
  • Meet regularly with local Branch Product Managers and General Managers/Outside Sales Managers to review progress towards OMS targets and report on non-branch activities.
  • Proactively review OMS activity for new projects with design-in opportunities and discuss with other technical or business development resources.
  • Maintain project information in CAM with the Outside Sales team, updating key activities and next actions for project conversion.
  • Ensure valid design registrations are applied for by the Branch Product Manager.
  • Proactively seek total solutions for projects, involving other technical resources and supplier technical support when a Technical Support Engineer (TSE) is assigned.
  • Focus on technical new business demand creation and liaise with local suppliers, updating them on activity and holding regular design reviews.
  • Assist the Sales team and BPMs with technical support as required, while commercial and cross-referencing tasks are handled by the local BPM and sales team.
  • Update sales teams on new products and relevant total solution applications with other TDEs and strategic suppliers.
  • Undertake regular product trainings with suppliers and understand key applications and technologies.
  • Employ commercial/business acumen to prioritize key projects and work with correct customers to maximize design conversion and sales revenue.
  • Identify potential design opportunities/leads for key NPI products and evaluate new potential customers via CAM, developing them alone and then with the outside sales team.
  • Utilize TTI Internal tools (iPad, CAM, Product Communicator, Express, BI, OMS, Intranet, TTI Website) for strategy and customer visit planning.
  • Understand supplier design registration programs, design protection cost discounts, local supplier competition offerings, market pricing, and market conditions.
  • Maintain regional market awareness on end application trends, distributor competitor activities, and industry trends through various resources.
