About The Position

The Technology Development Engineer (TDE) role is to create new designs in targeted customers through key product positioning and supplier strategy implementation, and convert these designs to generate increased sales at good profitability due to supplier design registration program protection. TTI, Inc. is the world’s leading authorized distributor of passive, connector, electromechanical and discrete components. The TDE develops technical product, application and supplier strategies, working closely with Regional Sales teams to define specific target customers and to further develop regional and local customer plans. The TDE works closely with Outside Sales teams and strategic suppliers, jointly visiting customers to execute the design-in of focus products into end customer applications. The TDE drives customer visit activity to engineering alone as required, evaluates new potential customers, and supports customer design locations that may ultimately procure products from TTI in other locations. The TDE ensures the allocated Outside Salesperson is informed of design strategy and project updates, monitors activities using the Customer Account Manager (CAM) tool and Opportunity Management System (OMS) reports, and meets regularly with local Branch Product Managers and General Managers/Outside Sales Managers to review progress towards OMS targets. The TDE proactively reviews OMS activity for new projects, discusses opportunities with other technical or business development resources, and maintains project information in CAM, updating key activity and next actions to convert associated projects, ensuring valid design registrations are applied for. Where a Technical Support Engineer (TSE) is assigned, the TDE looks for a total solution, calling on other technical expertise and supplier support. The TDE focuses on technical new business demand creation, liaises with local suppliers, updates them on activity, and holds regular design reviews. The TDE assists the Sales team and Branch Product Managers (BPMs) with technical support, while commercial and simple cross-referencing in BOMs is the responsibility of the local BPM and sales team. The TDE updates sales teams on new products and relevant total solution applications, and undertakes regular product trainings with suppliers. The TDE employs commercial/business acumen to prioritize key projects and works with correct customers to maximize project design conversion. The TDE utilizes TTI Internal tools such as iPad, CAM, Product Communicator, Express, BI, OMS, Intranet tools and TTI Website for strategy and customer visit planning. The TDE understands supplier design registration programs, design protection cost discounts structures, local supplier competition offerings, market pricing, and market conditions. The TDE maintains regional market awareness on end application trends, distributor competitor activities, and industry trends.
