About The Position

The Technology Business Engineer administers and supports the Apptio platform, data integrations, cost models, allocation logic, reporting, and data-quality controls. The role maintains recurring platform processing, troubleshoots model and data issues, and implements approved enhancements.

The engineer works with the Technology Business Manager, FinOps, Finance, source-system owners, and technology stakeholders to deliver reliable, traceable, and decision-ready technology cost information.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years Data engineering or related technical experience.
• Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise data engineering solutions, including cloud-based architectures (Azure, AWS) and modern data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks) across complex, multi-domain environments.
• Strong background in Infrastructure security, Role based access controls, data governance, and cross-system integration.
• Strong experience in developing and implementing engineering standards, best practices, and continuous improvement across the data engineering function.
• Advanced spreadsheet, data-transformation, query, reporting, and technical-documentation skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex data, model, access, processing, and reporting issues.
• Thought leadership and enterprise‑level problem solving.
• Ability to influence executive stakeholders and guide organizational direction.
• Expertise in translating complex technical concepts for business audiences.
• Strong mentoring ability and passion for building engineering talent.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to design for long‑term scalability and value.
• Proven expertise in leading data and anlytics modernization initiatives to minimize data and process duplication and redundancies.

• Proven capability in ETL/ELT design, streaming data pipelines, workflow orchestration, and DevOps practices (version control, CI/CD).
• Demonstrated leadership in technical strategy, technology evaluation, and Innovation.
• Deep expertise in Cloud Databases, Advanced SQL, Data modelling, Medallion data architectures, and complex data model design.

Nice To Haves

• Master's
• 10+ years experience in platform engineering and FinOps, data analytics, and visualization tools like Tableau, PowerBI and Sigma.
• Building data products, semantic models and/or AI Agents
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Master’s degree in Information Systems, Analytics, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience in enterprise application administration, financial systems, data integration, business intelligence, IT financial management, or technology cost modeling.
• Experience operating data ingestion, transformation, reconciliation, reporting, and controlled production processes.
• Knowledge of general-ledger data, budgets, forecasts, cost centers, accounts, cost pools, allocation, and total-cost-of-ownership concepts.
• Hands-on experience with Apptio administration, Cost Transparency, Planning, data ingestion, allocation modeling, reporting, or a comparable platform.
• Apptio product certification, preferably at hire or within 12 months.
• Certified Technology Business Management Executive or equivalent TBM credential.
• Data integration, business intelligence, or cloud-platform certification.
• FinOps Certified Practitioner.
• Knowledge of TBM taxonomy, Apptio data architecture, integration patterns, access controls, and data-quality practices.

Responsibilities

• Administer Apptio environments, configuration, user access, roles, permissions, schedules, and operational settings.
• Operate and monitor recurring data ingestion, transformation, validation, calculation, and publishing processes.
• Maintain cost models, allocation rules, mappings, hierarchies, reference data, assumptions, and approved business logic.
• Reconcile source-system totals with Apptio inputs and outputs and document exceptions, corrections, approvals, and supporting evidence.
• Monitor completeness, accuracy, timeliness, consistency, validity, duplication, and referential integrity of financial and operational data.
• Troubleshoot failed loads, calculation errors, mapping issues, model defects, access problems, and reporting discrepancies.
• Build and maintain approved dashboards, reports, views, filters, metrics, and distribution processes.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, variance, cost transparency, application costing, service costing, and showback reporting cycles.
• Maintain integrations with financial, procurement, human resources, project, time, asset, configuration, cloud, application, and service data sources.
• Implement approved enhancements through controlled development, testing, documentation, release, and rollback practices.
• Support Apptio upgrades, feature releases, regression testing, issue remediation, and production readiness.
• Maintain data dictionaries, mapping specifications, model diagrams, operating procedures, runbooks, support records, and change history.
• Provide user support, access administration, reporting assistance, issue triage, and knowledge transfer.
• Align Cloudability data, cost allocations, ownership mappings, and cloud reporting with the enterprise TBM model.
• Designs enterprise-scale data platforms and solutions leveraging cloud ecosystems (Azure, AWS) and modern data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks).
• Evaluates and implements emerging technologies, including AI/ML capabilities, to enhance data products and deliver measurable business value and innovation.
• Applies expert‑level knowledge of data systems, cloud architectures, big data platforms, streaming technologies, orchestration tools, and enterprise integration patterns.
• Optimizes data ecosystems by simplifying integration patterns, improving performance, and eliminating redundancy.
• Communicates and negotiates technical direction with executive leadership.
• Ensures data quality, accessibility, and security through solid engineering practices and collaboration with architects and data stewards.
• Champions data security, governance, and compliance through implementation of role-based access controls and enterprise policies.
• Drives engineering excellence through quality first practices, performance optimization, and process improvement initiatives.
• Partners with cross functional stakeholders to shape data strategy, roadmaps, and high impact solutions that enable actionable insights at scale.
• Leads design of resilient, secure, and highly available engineering solutions across the full technology stack.
• Mentors and guides engineering teams, serving as a subject matter expert and elevating technical capability across the organization.
• Performs other duties as assigned
