The Chemical Process Technologist is responsible for managing technology development programs focused on the improvement of existing and development of new chemical process technologies. Based at the Weymouth Research Center, this role supports breakthrough technology scale-up efforts with a particular focus on Energy Transition, Renewable Fuels, and Sustainable Chemistry applications. The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic R&D environment, demonstrating the ability to rapidly learn new technical domains, manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, and adapt to changing priorities while delivering high-quality technical results.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of experience in chemical process design, development, or technology commercialization.
  • Demonstrated experience with catalytic reaction processes.
  • Knowledge of chemical analytical techniques, experimental design, and data analysis methodologies.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple technical projects and deliver results under demanding timelines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and data management capabilities.
  • Ability to work hands-on in laboratory and pilot plant environments.
  • High intellectual curiosity and a passion for innovation.
  • Ability to rapidly learn and apply new technologies and scientific concepts.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Postdoctoral research experience.
  • Experience with process modeling software such as Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of plant automation and control systems.
  • Experience working in pilot plant or process development environments.
  • Strong technical communication and presentation skills.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following process areas: Alkylation, Dehydrogenation, Hydrogenation, Fluidization, Dehydration, Etherification, Isomerization, Oligomerization
  • Experience in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (Alcohol-to-Jet) development.
  • Experience in plastics recycling, circularity technologies, styrenics, or phenolics technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage chemical process technology development programs from concept through implementation.
  • Evaluate chemical processes through process modeling, simulation, and economic analysis.
  • Design and execute experimental programs to support technology development objectives.
  • Oversee the design, construction, operation, modification, and maintenance of bench-scale and pilot-scale process development equipment.
  • Conduct and interpret chemical and physical analyses of process streams and samples.
  • Evaluate experimental data and develop kinetic models to support process optimization and scale-up.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to multiple R&D programs across the organization.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners to advance technology development initiatives.
  • Support innovation efforts in Energy Transition, Renewable Fuels, Sustainable Chemistry, and related emerging technologies.
  • Manage technology development programs including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, and budgeting.
  • Ensure timely delivery of project milestones and technical results.
  • Supervise assigned operational and technical personnel.
  • Coordinate activities across multidisciplinary teams and external resources.
  • Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across research and development initiatives.
  • Demonstrate agility by effectively managing shifting project priorities and competing business needs.
  • Ensure safe operation of pilot plant and laboratory facilities in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain adherence to applicable regulatory, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Support documentation, reporting, and data management requirements for technology development programs.
  • Promote a culture of safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records and technical documentation.
