About The Position

CBS News Chicago is seeking a skilled and experienced news production technician with expert understanding of local news production. The role requires field, studio, and transmission experience, supporting broadcast and multi-platform social media strategies, and cbschicago.com. Studio duties include teleprompter, jib operator, editing, and transmission control. Field duties involve professional operation of broadcast cameras, drones, digital microwave, non-linear editing systems, and IP-based broadcast applications. This is a per diem position.

Requirements

Expert understanding of local news production.
Field, studio, and transmission experience.
Sony HD cameras.
Edius non-linear editing.
Jib operation.
Teleprompter operation.
Lighting.
Safe operation of company vehicles, including microwave equipped vans and trucks.
Ability to work under deadline pressure.
Potentially lengthy, physically and emotionally stressful assignments in the field.
Ability to carry and manipulate at least 75lbs of gear.
Ability to set up and breakdown broadcast production equipment, usually alone, and on tight deadlines.
Ability to drive company vehicles in all conditions and on potentially long drives.
Flexibility regarding assigned work schedule, including potential of regular shifts that involve weekends and/or late nights and/or overnights.
Consistent ability to communicate reliably and credibly, especially about safety issues and editorial content.
Ability to gather important information at various news locations.
Ability to deal with complex logistical situations in the field, including competing for position, coping with public interference, and interacting with third-parties.
Consistent ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a calm and professional manner.
Ability to adapt to writing content for air.
Ability to contribute to social media strategies and multimedia journalism.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with Chicago area.
Drone ENG experience with FAA Part 107 certification.

Responsibilities

Support broadcast and multi-platform social media strategies and cbschicago.com.
Perform studio duties including teleprompter, jib operator, editing, and transmission control.
Perform field duties including professional operation of broadcast cameras, drones, digital microwave, non-linear editing systems, and IP-based broadcast applications.
Demonstrate knowledge and experience with all aspects of ENG news and studio production, including Sony HD cameras, Edius non-linear editing, jib, teleprompter, and lighting.
Safely operate company vehicles, including microwave equipped vans and trucks, in all weather conditions.
Bring creativity and imagination to broadcast storytelling.
Ensure all daily show production deadlines are met.
Take extreme care to ensure news equipment is protected from theft and damage.
Consistently contribute to the editorial process in a team environment with story ideas and attention to production strategy.
Fill shifts based on production needs, including vacation relief.
Adapt to writing content for air.
Contribute to social media strategies and multimedia journalism.
