About The Position

Responsible for performing intermediate level technical work and related activities associated with the planning, engineering, design, analysis, research, development, testing, construction, maintenance, and operation of Company equipment and facilities.

Requirements

  • Valid Drivers License
  • Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/ Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields plus 2 years of related utility industry work experience (for Technician level)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 4 years of related utility industry work experience (for Technician level)
  • Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/ Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields, with a minimum of 4 years of related utility industry work experience (for Technician Sr level)
  • High School Diploma or GED, with a minimum of 6 years of related utility industry work experience, including experience in work activities and projects requiring technical engineering knowledge (for Technician Sr level)
  • Meets expectations of the Technician level (for Technician Sr level)
  • Intermediate level of computer literacy knowledge/skills.
  • Technical Proficiency: Uses knowledge and experience to perform cost effective work in an efficient manner. Exhibits understanding of pertinent equipment, material, systems, and processes.
  • Leadership & Guidance: Understands and works within appropriate policies and follows procedures.
  • Planning & Organization Ability: Develops knowledge of time constraints for work activities and makes proper adjustments where needed.
  • Problem Solving & Initiative: Actively seeks out information to increase technical knowledge and job skills where beneficial to AEP.
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Contributes to team goals. Begins networking with peers to share information and encourage cooperation. Develops a Win-Win relationship. Understands corporate goals.

  • Walk right ways of various terrain in adverse conditions to patrol distribution power lines to determine damage.
  • Carry and handle telescopic measuring sticks and switching sticks that weigh 11 pounds.
  • Use a brush axe (approx. 6 pounds) or machete (approx. 2 pounds) to clear brush for walking and staking in survey work.
