About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished development team, you will be a senior technician supporting system prototyping and rapid development. You will work side‑by‑side with engineers to move designs from concept through development and into production, helping transform how rockets and space vehicles are made and operated. If you thrive in a fast‑paced development environment, enjoy hands‑on problem solving, bring strong manual machining and CNC router experience, and don’t let a job title limit the scope of your contributions, we’d like to hear from you. This role directly impacts the history of space exploration and requires a strong commitment to safe, repeatable spaceflight.

Requirements

  • Significant experience (direct or indirect) working aerospace or complex hardware development programs or production lines.
  • Hands‑on experience with manual machining (mills, lathes, basic surface prep and measurement).
  • Hands‑on experience with CNC router setup and operation (fixturing, tool selection, basic programming or program prove‑out).
  • Hands‑on experience with general fabrication tools, fixtures, and inspection equipment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and test procedures.
  • Strong work ethic and close attention to detail in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment with evolving priorities.
  • Basic computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Office, etc.).
  • Strong customer focus with effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively across various teams, including remote and geographically distributed partners.
  • Continuous improvement mindset; comfortable identifying issues and proposing/implementing solutions.
  • Willingness to work off‑shift, extended hours, overtime, and weekends as needed.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with a proven ability to drive complex work with minimal oversight.
  • Intense curiosity about the broader business and how to optimize processes, tools, and workflows.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years in an aerospace technician or equivalent role supporting development programs or production lines.
  • Experience handling large aerospace components (rigging, lifting, fixturing, and safe movement).
  • Experience in a team‑based lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environment (5S, visual management, standard work, etc.).
  • Prior experience in a development/prototype shop or R&D environment where requirements and designs change rapidly.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the system prototyping and rapid development team to move designs from concepts to functional hardware and early production.
  • Work side‑by‑side with engineering to interpret models and drawings, build and assemble prototypes, and provide feedback on manufacturability and design improvements.
  • Operate and maintain shop equipment, including manual mills and lathes (basic manual machining), CNC routers and associated CAM/workflow, and general fabrication tools, fixtures, and inspection equipment.
  • Ensure product quality and conformance to engineering specifications and work instructions.
  • Help document, standardize, and continuously improve production and development processes.
  • Review and provide input on work instructions; recommend changes for clarity, safety, and efficiency.
  • Support setup of new development work areas (layouts, tooling, equipment, and material flow).
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement projects for area safety, quality, and throughput.
  • Provide informal leadership and mentorship to less experienced technicians; support ongoing training and skills development.
  • Collaborate closely with area leadership to prioritize work based on development and production needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the mission and vision.
