About The Position

Performs technical and clinical functions of Preoperative Nursing Practice under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse. Prepares the room for surgical cases, maintains aseptic technique intraoperatively, and provides instrumentation and supplies as required. Must be knowledgeable in applicable surgical procedures.

Requirements

• Successfully complete a nationally or regionally accredited educational program for surgical technologists, or hold and maintain a certified surgical technologist credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor, or another nationally recognized credentialing organization approved by the Department of Health and Senior Services.
• Alternatively, complete an appropriate surgical technology training program in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps; perform surgical technology duties as a federal government employee; or provide evidence of employment practicing surgical technology in a health care facility as stated under the Surgical Technologist Bill dated December 20, 2011.
• Complete 15 hours of continuing education annually, effective December 20, 2012.
• Be knowledgeable in applicable surgical procedures.
