Technician, Quality Assurance
About The Position
South32 is seeking a Quality Assurance Technician to support the management of construction quality assurance and quality control activities for the Shafts and Concentrator projects at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona. This role involves supporting the management of multiple contractors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with health, safety, security, environmental regulations, quality standards, and community relations, all while staying within budget and on schedule. The position requires consistent field interaction and collaboration with integrated construction teams. The Hermosa project is a significant mining project in the United States, focused on producing critical minerals like manganese and zinc, along with silver and lead, contributing to the nation's clean energy future and domestic supply chain.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Ability to drive company vehicle and be covered under company insurance
- Understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control management concepts and best practices
- Ability to read and interpret 2D and 3D designs, and specifications for the work being performed
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong English language written and oral communication skills
- Relationship building, team building, interaction skills
- Experience working in a cross-cultural setting
- Proven track record maintaining a safe work culture
- Maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct

- Trade qualifications or certifications
- Prior experience with large-scale mining/construction projects as related to Quality Assurance and Quality Control
Responsibilities
- Ensure that work is always executed in a safe manner
- Assist in completion of South32 corporate safety and business goals
- Ensure that project construction activities and services are executed in conformity with South32’s community relations, environmental policies and plans
- Ensure strict compliance with South32 Change Management processes
- Extract data from sources such as plans, engineering reports, and specifications to inspect and report on the work of construction contractors and vendor supplied materials
- Inspect and verify Contractor’s and Vendor’s work and materials for defects
- Write and maintain accurate reports and documentation of field activities
- Identify contractor quality issues and work with Quality Specialist to resolve issues
- Ensure compliance within scope of applicable regulatory requirements including Federal, State, and Local
- Ensure conformity with industry codes of practice and standards
- Perform other Quality Assurance duties as assigned by the Quality Assurance Specialist
