About The Position

This role assists in the installation and qualification of manufacturing equipment, troubleshoots day-to-day manufacturing issues, and identifies and/or implements system improvements that contribute to the achievement of throughput, yield, and product performance goals. The position involves adhering to all safety protocols, developing a complete understanding of manufacturing processes, equipment, and support systems, and solving day-to-day production, process equipment, and process problems. Competency in maintaining and repairing process equipment, identifying and implementing yield and product performance improvements, and developing methods to assign causes to yield excursions are key. The role also includes setting up and maintaining gauges, implementing accurate changes as necessary, ensuring processes run on target, responding to SPC process control alarms, executing planned process experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and reporting results. Additionally, the technician will collect, prepare, and submit samples for material and failure analysis, collect data relating to daily tool performance, provide training to production associates, develop and update internal documentation, interface with internal associates and supplier representatives, maintain effective communication, and disposition non-conforming product. Adherence to safety procedures and good housekeeping standards, including ensuring satellite accumulation containers stay in their designated locations, is required. During Pilot Line Setup and commissioning, the role will operate 1st shift hours, transitioning to a 12-hour crew schedule A or C during ramp. Positions may require 2nd shift in various locations on campus for training and on-boarding. Other duties as assigned. Job description subject to change at any time.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 1 year experience as First Solar Manufacturing Engineering Technician I or 3 years First Solar Technical experience or 10 years technical experience in a Manufacturing setting
  • Associate’s degree in a technical discipline with at least 1 year as First Solar Manufacturing Engineering Technician I or 2 years First Solar Technical Experience or at least 3 years technical experience in a Manufacturing setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline with 0–2-year technical experience in a Manufacturing setting
  • Safety first mindset.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting and problem solving on the manufacturing line.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in electrical/electronic and mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in responding to SPC alarms to bring processes back in control.
  • Self-directed, ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Able to apply statistical tools to analyze data and provide conclusions.
  • Good written and oral communications skills in English.
  • Ability to deal with administrative as well as technical tasks.
  • Continuously monitor production line to ensure product quality.
  • Act as point of contact for production personnel with regards to equipment and process issues.
  • Follow PM procedures for equipment systems and assure completion of PM’s when due.
  • Understanding and/or experience with at least two of the following: vacuum, chemical, laser, thermal, metrology, packaging, or robotic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair process equipment.
  • Identify and implement yield and product performance improvements.
  • Develop methods to assign causes to yield excursions.
  • Set up and maintain gauges and implement accurate changes as necessary.
  • Ensure all processes are running on target as defined by the Process Control Plan.
  • Respond to SPC process control alarms, bringing processes back into control.
  • Execute planned process experiments, collect and analyze data, and report experimental results.
  • Collect, prepare, and submit samples for material and Failure analysis.
  • Collect data relating to daily tool performance and associated product performance.
  • Provide training to production associates.
  • Develop and update internal documentation including drawings, standard operating procedures, and process specifications.
  • Interface with internal associates and supplier representatives, as required, to complete assigned projects.
  • Maintain effective communication with production associates and manufacturing engineers.
  • Disposition non-conforming product according to established criteria (NCP).
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
  • Ensure satellite accumulation containers stay in their designated locations.
  • Operate 1st shift hours during Pilot Line Setup and commissioning; transition to 12-hour crew schedule A or C during ramp.
  • Other duties as assigned.
