About The Position

This role involves performing inspections, extensive preventative maintenance, detailed diagnostic tests, routine and major repairs, troubleshooting, and adjustments of equipment and facilities. The technician will also be responsible for general mechanical overhaul, minor welding, fabricating parts, and assisting with installations and renovations. A key aspect of the role is to manage and complete daily work orders, keep detailed records, and ensure the physical condition of equipment and buildings does not deteriorate. The position requires the ability to identify projects needing higher skill levels, obtain correct replacement parts, maintain a clean work area, and keep track of company tools. Continuous learning through workshops, publications, and networking is encouraged. The role also emphasizes maintaining a safe and clean working environment, complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, and contributing to team efforts. The technician is responsible for alerting supervisors of unusual occurrences or damage and maintaining a professional demeanor with all stakeholders. Mentoring lower-level maintenance employees is also part of the role, ensuring all safety standards are followed. Supervision is not a primary responsibility, but direction may be provided when assisted by others. Special projects may also be assigned.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of OSHA and HAZMAT regulations (certification preferred).
  • Thorough knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical equipment, including reading schematics.
  • First Aid Knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, managers, and senior management in both a verbal and written manner.
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret plans and sketches.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical technical aptitude.
  • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, equipment manuals, and parts catalogs.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial power systems, electricity, and oil and gas machinery.
  • Ability to operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Ability to use equipment designed to inspect, test, monitor, and measure safe environmental levels.
  • Ability to locate, diagnose, and repair most major mechanical malfunctions in equipment.
  • Ability to identify issues or potential issues and report them to management.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize and effectively manage time to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to respond to all emergency or non-emergency situations.
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, climb, squat, crawl, talk, and listen for long periods of time.
  • Ability to travel in relation with the work and/or continued education.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools, industrial machines, digital cameras, phones, scanners, tools, and controls in a safe manner.
  • Specific vision abilities required include: close vision, distance vision, color perception, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, hand-eye coordination.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to control machines and processes using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes.
  • Must be able to wear protective equipment such as safety glasses.
  • Ability to work and concentrate in a noisy environment.
  • Requires working with a wide variety of other job groups and involves working around traffic, heights, electricity, hydraulics, and heavy equipment including moving parts.
  • Must have manual dexterity.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum five years mechanical maintenance experience or equivalent associate degree in mechanical engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certifications in welding, pipefitting, general motor repair, hydraulics, and pneumatics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs inspections and extensive preventative maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, changing belts, replacing filters, checking fluid levels, and inspecting drives and motors.
  • Performs detailed diagnostic tests, routine repairs, troubleshooting, and adjustment of equipment/facilities.
  • Inspects, adjusts, and replaces components and related parts including valves, pistons, and main bearing assemblies.
  • Performs general mechanical overhaul and repair work on motors, control systems, pneumatic systems, resistance welding systems, and hydraulic systems.
  • Performs minor welding and modifies equipment and fabricates parts as needed.
  • Performs in-depth diagnostic tests, major repairs, troubleshooting, and adjustment of equipment/facilities.
  • Inspects hydraulic lines and components to detect leaks, damage, and wear; reads pressure gauges and uses smell to detect overheated oil.
  • Disassembles defective hydraulic components, replaces/repairs them, and reassembles.
  • Observes readouts on display screens or computers to determine system malfunctions and operates standard testing equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Responds to emergency maintenance requests.
  • Manages and completes assigned daily work orders.
  • Assists with installation of new equipment.
  • Identifies projects that need a higher skill level and informs supervisors.
  • Keeps detailed records of the work performed.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance to ensure the physical conditions of equipment and buildings do not deteriorate.
  • Assists with renovation and remodeling of buildings and/or work stations.
  • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment, tools, and supplies efficiently.
  • Obtains correct replacement parts from inventory and advises Parts Room Clerk when a part needs to be ordered.
  • Leaves work area clean after completion of maintenance or repair.
  • Keeps track of company tools.
  • Grows technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Alerts maintenance supervisor of any unusual occurrence and/or damage.
  • Maintains a professional courteous manner with all vendors, contractors, customers, and fellow employees.
  • Complies with all work related activities in a fair, ethical, and consistent manner.
  • Mentors lower level maintenance employees and equipment operators regarding maintenance issues.
  • Assures all safety standards are used when working on equipment.
  • Provides direction of work when assisted by lower level maintenance workers or equipment operators.
  • Performs special projects and other responsibilities as may be determined.
