About The Position

The Instrumentation, Controls, and Electrical (IC&E) Lead Technician is responsible for the maintenance, leadership, coordination, and reliable operation of a large multi-unit thermal power generation facility. This position serves as the top-tier technical resource within the IC&E group and provides direction, guidance, and oversight to other technicians. Responsibilities include, without limitation, leading the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of low- to medium-voltage electrical systems, industry-specific instrumentation, and distributed control systems (DCS). The Lead Technician provides technical leadership for plant equipment including Ovation DCS, Allen Bradley PLCs, Mitsubishi Netmation DCS, GE LCI drives, and electrical systems up to 13,800 VAC. This role is expected to lead by example in safety, reliability, and operational excellence, while ensuring strict adherence to all GRDA safety and environmental policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of Lock out tag out (LOTO) and full proficiency in plant systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership in safety with the ability to influence and enforce safe work practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of power plant systems including turbines, boilers, pumps, and electrical/control systems.
  • Expert-level technical skills with instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills
  • Ability to work independently while directing and coordinating team activities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate resources effectively
  • Ability to perform duties safely with minimal supervision and provide guidance to others
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, etc.)
  • Advanced ability to read and understand plant Process & Instrumentation Diagrams and electrical drawings
  • Ability to work in a 24/7/365 environment and in extreme weather conditions
  • Proficient in calibration management system (Procal)
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program required
  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ directly related experience in a large industrial or power generating facility, with leadership experience preferred
  • Valid Oklahoma driver’s license, or the ability to convert within 30 days for those with an out of state driver’s license that are an Oklahoma resident.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coordinate, and perform installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance of boiler systems and auxiliaries, combustion systems, steam turbine/generator auxiliaries, and fuel supply systems, if applicable.
  • Lead preventive and corrective maintenance activities on control systems and equipment, ensuring work is executed efficiently and in alignment with plant priorities.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and calibrate environmental and industrial hygiene equipment such as CEMS, noise monitoring, and gas detection devices in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for diagnosing and resolving complex electrical, instrumentation, and control system issues specific to power generation facilities.
  • Obtain and validate measurements using electrical and mechanical testing instruments, ensuring accuracy and proper interpretation of results.
  • Lead coordination of maintenance work by working closely with supervisors, planners, contractors, and engineers; assist in planning, scheduling, estimating labor/materials, and prioritizing work activities.
  • Provide technical review and recommendations for system improvements, equipment upgrades, repairs, and modifications.
  • Interpret and validate electrical and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and diagrams; provide guidance to team members as needed.
  • Direct and oversee safe operation of forklifts, aerial lifts, scissor lifts, cranes, and fleet vehicles when required.
  • Lead and actively participate in Root Cause Investigations for incidents, near misses, off-normal conditions, and equipment failures.
  • Promote a high-performance team environment through strong communication, collaboration, and mentorship of other technicians.
  • Lead and support plant startup, shutdown, and emergency response activities, ensuring proper execution and communication.
  • Serves as acting supervisor when needed to maintain safe and efficient operations.
