Reimagine What’s Possible Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases, is seeking an experienced Instrument and Electrical Lead Technician at our Texas City, TX facility. The facility assets include Air Products’ largest Steam Methane Reformer, a Nitrogen Air Separation Unit, the world’s largest single train Ammonia Plant, Ammonia Pipelines, 60 MW of Steam Turbine Power Generation and large Utility System. This facility is a greenfield build expanding Air Products presence in the Gulf Coast at Texas City and will connect with Air Products Gulf Coast Hydrogen Pipeline system. The Instrument & Electrical Technician Lead is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation, analytical and electrical equipment up to 13.8KV, at our Texas City facility while assisting and developing other technicians in the group. The I&E Technician Lead is also responsible for leading electrical power distribution systems maintenance activities, assisting other maintenance personnel in developing inspection/repair scopes and write/update procedures as needed.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (electrical drawings, schematics, P&ID’s, equipment drawings.)
  • Experience with SAP or equivalent CMMS system.
  • Demonstrate the practice of safe handling of hand tools and hand power tools typically and commonly used in maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge of PLC and DCS controls.
  • Understand the properties, behaviors, and hazards of the equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite, email, and spreadsheet programs.
  • Practical knowledge of machinery overhauls and refurbishment.
  • Excellent organizational skills, the ability to work alone if necessary, and the ability to lead a crew.
  • Able to work in a team environment with Operators, Mechanics, Engineering/Technical support, and other contracted crafts.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Five years of industrial experience working on instrumentation and electrical equipment is required.
  • Military training will be considered in lieu of industrial experience / trade school education.
  • Safety focused.
  • Proficient communication and digital literacy.
  • A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Flexibility to be available for on call is required.
  • Flexibility to work overtime is required.

  • A trade, technical degree or apprenticeship in a related field is preferred but is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in department/plant safety programs.
  • Promote safety rules and regulations as well as environmental compliance.
  • Engage actively in a team environment, bring a positive attitude, maintain personal accountability, and provide mentoring and coaching for team member development.
  • Provide hands on support and expertise to resolve Instrument/Electrical/Analytical field problems as they occur.
  • Responsible for assigning workload to the Technicians for the day’s activities and provide daily updates.
  • Perform and/or supervise the inspection, repair, installation, troubleshooting and modification of process controls, control valves, safety devices, analyzers, PLC’s, field instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level and flow instrumentation), process monitoring equipment, low, medium and high voltage motors/breakers and control circuits and distributed control systems (DCS).
  • Commissioning of new plants in addition to troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of plant instrumentation and electrical controls.
  • Investigate equipment failures, determine root cause of failure, and recommend appropriate solutions to reduce reoccurrence of/or eliminate cause of failure.
  • Recommend and specify revisions to improve equipment performance and/or system reliability/capacity.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and periodic review of preventative/predictive maintenance programs to reduce unplanned shutdowns and improve overall plant on stream capability.
  • Update and/or create maintenance manual/procedures for certain equipment as needed.
  • Keep abreast of and evaluate new methodologies, work practices, equipment, instrumentation, controls, technology, etc., for application and use within the plant.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of minor and major planned/unplanned shutdowns.
  • Provide technical and hands on support as required during shutdowns.
  • Assist in the development and ongoing improvement of the plant mechanical integrity program and overall record keeping.
  • Develop work scopes for equipment repair and overhaul, prepare and provide technical reports as well as enter information into SAP to provide accurate documentation on equipment and information to enable others in the organization to carry out their responsibilities effectively.
