About The Position

The Technician IV is a highly skilled manufacturing professional responsible for independently setting up, operating, and maintaining complex machining processes while ensuring exceptional quality and productivity. The role interprets engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and complex specifications to produce precision components with tight tolerances. It performs advanced inspections, tooling adjustments, and process troubleshooting to optimize machine performance and product quality. The position works with aluminum, stainless steel, and exotic alloys, and supports operational efficiency, scrap reduction, accurate production documentation, and safe, organized manufacturing operations. The Technician IV can set up jobs without supervision during a work period, including complex parts with multiple operations and intricate loading schemes. The role also loads, unloads, and inspects parts; maintains part counts and production documentation; and is responsible for the quality and production standards of parts produced. Some work may require deburring and polishing parts at the machine. Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing machine shop environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • At least 4 years of machine shop programming experience on manual or CNC milling equipment.
  • At least 5 years of machine shop experience with pertinent CNC milling experience.
  • At least 1 year of setup experience.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, including GD&T.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools and maintaining close tolerances.
  • Knowledge of tooling and inserts; ability to identify worn, dull, or broken tools, change tools, and calculate tool offsets.
  • Knowledge of algebra and geometry, including the ability to calculate slopes and angles.
  • Basic program knowledge.
  • Knowledge of tool setup and tool maintenance.
  • Machine shop training classes and safety knowledge.
  • Ability to maintain accurate part counts and perform SPC control.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push, pull, and grasp; lift up to 25 lbs; and move arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Visual acuity to perform assigned tasks; ability to talk on the phone and use a computer for extended periods may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Machine shop training certificate preferred.
  • Previous experience in a company with ISO implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Read prints and interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerances; perform complex dimensional calculations.
  • Determine tool wear, change tools, and calculate tool offsets.
  • Maintain dimensional tolerances typically less than or equal to +/- .001 and use standard measurement tools to assess part quality.
  • Calculate slopes and angles and perform complex inspection setups.
  • Perform simple setups with assistance for jobs with single or multiple operations and tolerances greater than +/- .001.
  • Load, unload, and inspect parts; maintain accurate part counts; update router paperwork; segregate parts as required; and complete SPC documentation.
  • Ensure the quality of parts produced and achieve production standards, including efficiency exceeding 100% and scrap rates under 1%.
  • Set up jobs without supervision during a work period using aluminum, stainless steel, and other exotic materials, including complex parts requiring multiple operations and loading schemes.
  • Deburr and polish parts at the machine when required.
  • Report equipment problems and follow documented operator and setup procedures.
  • Maintain machine and area housekeeping, including cleaning machines, removing chips, and moving materials and parts as necessary.
