About The Position

The Technician IV is a highly skilled manufacturing professional who independently sets up, operates, and maintains complex machining processes while meeting quality and productivity standards. The role interprets engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and complex specifications to produce precision components with tight tolerances. It performs advanced inspections, tooling adjustments, and process troubleshooting to optimize machine performance and product quality. The position works with aluminum, stainless steel, and exotic alloys, and supports operational efficiency, scrap reduction, accurate production documentation, and safe, organized manufacturing operations. The work is performed primarily in a manufacturing machine shop. The employee is expected to follow documented operator and setup procedures, maintain the machine and work area, and meet production and quality standards. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • At least 4 years of machine shop programming experience on manual or CNC milling equipment.
  • At least 5 years of machine shop experience with pertinent CNC milling experience.
  • At least 1 year of setup experience.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
  • Experience using precision measurement tools and maintaining close tolerances.
  • Ability to maintain accurate part counts and perform SPC control.
  • Knowledge of tooling and inserts, tool setup and maintenance, and determining and changing dull, worn, or broken tools.
  • Ability to calculate tool offsets.
  • Knowledge of math, including algebra and geometry.
  • Basic program knowledge.
  • Safety knowledge.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk, push, pull, and grasp; move arms, hands, and fingers; and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to perform assigned tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Machine shop training certificate.
  • Machine shop training classes.
  • Previous experience in a company with ISO implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Read prints, perform complex dimensional calculations, and interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
  • Determine tool wear, change tools, and calculate tool offsets; maintain dimensional tolerances of +/- .001 or tighter where required.
  • Use standard measurement tools to determine part quality, calculate slopes and angles, and perform complex inspection setups.
  • Perform simple setups with assistance for jobs with single or multiple operations and tolerances greater than +/- .001.
  • Load, unload, and inspect parts.
  • Maintain accurate part counts, update router paperwork, segregate parts as required, and complete SPC documentation.
  • Take responsibility for the quality of produced parts and achieving production standards.
  • Deburr and polish parts at the machine when required.
  • Report equipment problems and follow documented operator and setup procedures.
  • Maintain machine and area housekeeping, including cleaning machines, removing chips, and moving material and parts as necessary.
  • Independently set up complex jobs during a work period using aluminum, stainless steel, and other exotic materials, including parts with complex features, multiple operations, and complex loading schemes.
  • Meet efficiency standards exceeding 100% and keep scrap rates under 1%.
  • Perform other duties and activities as assigned; duties and responsibilities may change with or without notice.
