About The Position

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems. This role involves working with existing trained staff to become a solo operator under limited supervision for various processing operations, including film roll to roll processing through water removal systems, vacuum coating, sputter coating, and metallizing machines. The technician will monitor computer programs, perform machine clean-up and maintenance, handle classified materials shipments, and work with coating chemicals and dry particulate materials requiring protective PPE. The position also includes fabricating, modifying, assembling, operating, repairing, and maintaining complex equipment, tracking maintenance tasks, assisting in equipment design, setting up experiments, recording data, and diagnosing operational problems. The role requires adherence to all applicable laws and regulations and a commitment to safe work practices.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent with five or more years of experience, or equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Ability to perform machine set-up and process start.
  • Ability and willingness to work on systems with unusual conditions such as high temperature, high voltage, and low pressures that exist in vacuum coating processing.
  • Knowledge of computer operations and applications pertinent to the field.
  • Analytical ability to read and understand detailed instructions, drawings, and specifications.
  • Communication skills necessary to write and record precise information.
  • Special skills and expertise to use complex equipment or experimental techniques.
  • Able to stay organized and to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to operate or learn how to operate specialized analytical equipment like spectrophotometers, color measurements, and mechanical testing devices.
  • Computer knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Become a solo operator under limited supervision for film roll to roll processing operations, including polyester film processing through a water removal system.
  • Become trained to be a solo operator under limited supervision for film roll to roll process through vacuum coating, sputter coating, and metallizing machines.
  • Monitor computer programs throughout the entire material run.
  • Perform continuous machine clean-up and maintenance after every product completion.
  • Work on assignments requiring organizing, labeling, and following security protocols in support of classified materials shipments.
  • Work with coating chemicals and dry particulate materials that require protective PPE during material processing operations.
  • Perform and/or assist in fabrication, modification, assembly, installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of complex laboratory, experimental, and commercial equipment.
  • Track and perform equipment weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly maintenance tasks individually or by working with facilities and/or outside vendors.
  • Assist in the design of basic lab, experimental, and commercial equipment.
  • Apply specialized knowledge and skills pertinent to the organization, project, or program assigned.
  • Set up moderately complex experiments and/or tests.
  • Check out and calibrate equipment prior to experimentation and data acquisition.
  • Conduct tests and experiments following operating procedures.
  • Record, reduce, and summarize data.
  • Diagnose and correct operational problems or trouble sources in equipment and/or tests.
  • Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
