About The Position

This role is for an Internal Technician IV (Maintenance Lead) in Tire Build. The primary focus is to manage and lead a multi-craft technician team towards a zero-breakdown culture. This involves making critical decisions regarding equipment downtime, scheduling technicians for preventive maintenance and repairs, and promoting a strong safety culture. The position also emphasizes training and mentoring the team in TPM/PM concepts, effective problem-solving techniques (CBS, 5 why, clean, inspect, repair), and maintenance/repair of equipment. The role requires completing daily maintenance shift reports, escalating technical issues when necessary, and communicating directly with maintenance leadership regarding team performance. Additionally, the Maintenance Lead will monitor PM tasks and work orders, manage attendance and vacation requests, collect and assign maintenance best practices, and partner with the team on hands-on maintenance activities. Flexibility in work schedule is required to meet maintenance and production needs. A broad technical background including mechanical, pneumatic, PLC, electrical, hydraulic, and electronic systems is essential. The role also involves monitoring production equipment for early intervention, coaching the maintenance team on training needs, and supporting the Continental Business System (CBS) structure through participation in meetings, performance management, problem-solving, and implementing improvements. The position requires issuing procedures and work instructions, ensuring implementation of measures, maintaining controls, and promoting ESH (Environment, Safety, and Health) awareness and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Two or more years’ experience in maintenance within a production environment
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
  • Must have broad technical background to include knowledge of production mechanical, pneumatic, PLC, electrical, hydraulic, electronic devices, machining/grinding, and familiarity with appropriate maintenance repair/procedures
  • Must be able to stand for long periods, frequently stoop, twist, bend, walk long distances, climb stairs/ladders, and lift 50 or more pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the multi-craft technician to a zero-breakdown culture
  • Make decisions on the best course of action regarding equipment down time and scheduling the multi-craft technicians according to PM’s and down equipment
  • Promote and monitor safety throughout your area and in the plant
  • Promote and train TPM/PM concepts and effective problem solving (CBS, 5 why, clean, inspect, repair)
  • Mentor and train (or arrange training) as necessary to ensure the team is capable and effective in maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Complete the daily maintenance shift report
  • Escalate technical issues to the lead engineer that cannot be resolved by the team after 2 hours of consecutive asset downtime
  • Communicate directly with the maintenance area lead or supervisor of the area regarding performance of the maintenance team when necessary
  • Monitor and ensure execution of PM tasks and work orders and follow up on completion and quality of work
  • Communicate all matters of attendance and vacation requests directly with the area lead or supervisor for the area and perform other administrative tasks as directed by your immediate supervisor
  • Collect and assign maintenance best practices for consistency across all shifts
  • Partner with team to address hands-on maintenance activities as required
  • Must have flexibility to adjust work schedule to meet maintenance and production needs
  • Must have broad technical background to include knowledge of production mechanical, pneumatic, PLC, electrical, hydraulic, electronic devices, machining/grinding, and familiarity with appropriate maintenance repair/procedures
  • Must be able and willing to monitor production equipment within an assigned engineering maintenance area of responsibility to allow early intervention when maintenance issues arise and assign appropriate personnel to address with optimum efficiency
  • Must be able and willing to coach maintenance team with respect to potential training needs on an ongoing basis and promote team concepts and cohesion within the team
  • Support the Continental Business System (CBS) structure by participating in the applicable CBT meeting, reviewing and managing his/her/team performance, conducting simple problem-solving using action sheets, identifying and implementing improvement opportunities, participating in the CBT reviews, and taking ownership for presented parts of the team boards
  • Issue procedures and work instructions, ensure implementation of measures, and maintain controls
  • Raise awareness, ensure regular ESH training and provide information about ESH responsibilities and duties
  • Ensure immediate notification and response, and initiate preventive measures in case of unsafe or polluting hazards
  • Demonstrate exemplary personal behavior in ESH and motivate others
  • Other duties as assigned
