About The Position

The Photograph & Media Technician III position supports JCCC mission by providing advanced technical support in Photography, Film, and Media Studies Department studios and equipment check in/out room, exercising judgment in troubleshooting, instruction, and equipment management. This position also provides support for the Fine Arts Gallery in the Fine Arts and Design Studios building.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Photography, Film/Media Production, Digital Media, or a closely related field or Associate’s degree with 4+ years’ experience.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, & pull 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary technical resource for students, faculty, and staff in analog, digital, computer, and shooting studios.
  • Provide expert guidance and instruction in the use of fine art and large-format printers, scanners, light tables, Adobe Creative Cloud, DaVinci Resolve, and related software.
  • Provide advanced support for professional analog and digital cameras, cinematic RAW and 6K cameras, steady cams, rigs, lighting, and sound equipment.
  • Develop, standardize, and deliver complex laboratory and studio demonstrations and instructional materials.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize complex analog, digital, and new media equipment and workflows.
  • Implement preventative maintenance programs for cameras, printers, lighting, sound, and lab equipment.
  • Lead resolution of complex technical issues, ensuring continuity of instructional and production activities.
  • Evaluate, test, and implement new technologies and equipment for department use.
  • Oversee equipment checkout, returns, and usage documentation for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and manage departmental assets, including cameras, lighting, sound, printers, and consumables.
  • Plan, inspect, catalog, store, and organize new and existing equipment, ensuring proper lifecycle management and readiness.
  • Lead safety program compliance, including proper handling, mixing, monitoring, and disposal of photographic and film processing chemicals.
  • Identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and ensure adherence to institutional, environmental, and regulatory safety standards.
  • Train staff and students on safety procedures and best practices in analog, digital, and shooting studios.
  • Lead technical and logistical support for Fine Arts Gallery exhibitions, including installation, documentation, and deinstallation.
  • Oversee handling, tracking, and return of artworks and media, ensuring proper care and accountability.
  • Coordinate with faculty and artists to meet exhibition and instructional objectives.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to Technician I/II staff and student assistants.
  • Assist in developing departmental procedures, workflows, and technical standards.
  • Serve as a liaison between faculty, staff, and students for technical needs and studio operations.
  • Contribute to long-term planning of studio resources, instructional technologies, and departmental facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
