About The Position

The primary function of this position is to perform moderate mechanical repairs and assembly on construction equipment by troubleshooting and using various diagnostic equipment. This role involves using manuals, repair manuals, and parts diagrams for independent troubleshooting and repair. The technician will use various tools and equipment, including lift trucks, overhead cranes, hand and power tools, and diagnostic equipment, to disassemble, repair, and reassemble construction equipment. Responsibilities include performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairing engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components. The role also involves using computers for parts information and data entry, as well as reprogramming equipment controllers.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Three years' direct work experience.
  • Working knowledge of CAT literature systems.
  • Proficient in at least one mechanical system (e.g., hydraulics, transmissions, electrical).
  • Ability to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend, and climb onto and underneath various equipment.
  • Ability to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.
  • Ability to routinely and physically lift and position various parts up to 112 pounds, and use mechanical hoists for heavier parts.
  • Ability to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Exposure to P.C. base equipment and parts information.

Responsibilities

  • Perform moderate mechanical repairs and assembly on construction equipment.

  • Operate lift trucks, overhead cranes, hand tools, and power tools for repairs.
  • Disassemble, repair, rebuild, and test parts and equipment.
  • Access all parts of vehicles by climbing onto and underneath them.
  • Use overhead hoists, lift devices, and forklifts to move parts.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Repair engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components.
  • Use power washers and spray paint equipment for cleaning and painting.
  • Use instruments and computers to reprogram equipment controllers.
  • Write repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Apply knowledge, written information, and verbal instructions to solve technical problems.
