About The Position

The primary function of this position is to perform moderate mechanical repairs and assembly on construction equipment by troubleshooting and using various diagnostic equipment. This role involves checking equipment and supplies, using manuals and diagnostic tools, and performing repairs on various mechanical systems. The technician will also be responsible for inspections, preventative maintenance, and using computer systems for information and reprogramming. Requirements

  • High school education or GED
  • Three years' direct work experience
  • Working knowledge of CAT literature systems
  • Proficient in at least one mechanical system (i.e. hydraulics, transmissions, electrical, etc.)
  • Must be able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend and climb onto and underneath various equipment.
  • Must be able to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.
  • Must be able to routinely and physically lift and position various parts to perform repairs/service and manually handle parts up to 112 pounds, as well as use mechanical hoist for heavier parts.
  • Must be able to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Must have cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems.
  • Exposure to P.C. base equipment and parts information.

Responsibilities

  • Perform moderate mechanical repairs and assembly on construction equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and use various diagnostic equipment.
  • Check equipment and supplies required to perform scheduled work.
  • Comply with PPE requirements.
  • Use manuals, repair manuals, and parts manuals to perform independent troubleshooting and repair.
  • Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aids to lift or move parts.
  • Use hand and power tools to remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, and test parts/equipment.
  • Reference parts, get information about parts, and enter data into record systems using miscellaneous resources and computers.
  • Disassemble/re-assemble parts or equipment.
  • Clean parts with rags, cleaners, and power washers.
  • Use test equipment to make diagnostic checks.
  • Control powered equipment or tools to make repairs.
  • Climb onto, under, and into vehicles to gain access to all parts.
  • Use overhead hoists, lift devices, forklifts, and other aids to move items off vehicles and to locations for repair and reassembly.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Repair engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components.
  • Use power washers and spray paint equipment to clean and paint vehicles.
  • Use instruments and computers to reprogram equipment controllers.
  • Write repair activities on customer work orders.
