Technician I, 1st shift, Site 2

AST SpaceMobile•Midland, TX

About The Position

AST SpaceMobile is seeking a Production Technician I (MLI Fabrication) to support the fabrication, assembly, and installation of Multi-Layer Insulation (MLI) systems used on spacecraft and satellite hardware. The role is suited to candidates with hands-on experience in aviation maintenance, fabrication, aerospace manufacturing, composites, textiles, or related production environments. Direct MLI experience is not required; core fabrication tasks can be learned through on-the-job training. Candidates should demonstrate manual dexterity, attention to detail, and the ability to follow work instructions, engineering drawings, and quality standards. The position involves working with flight hardware and thermal protection systems, maintaining production documentation, and complying with applicable cleanroom, contamination-control, ESD, safety, and quality requirements. The role may include additional duties or changes in scope based on business needs.

  • Aerospace manufacturing experience.
  • Cleanroom environment experience.
  • Experience with spacecraft, aircraft, composite structures, or aerospace hardware.
  • Knowledge of inspection techniques and quality-control processes.
  • Familiarity with thermal insulation systems or technical sewing applications.
  • Understanding of contamination-control practices.
  • Experience supporting high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate and assemble Multi-Layer Insulation (MLI) blankets for satellite and spacecraft applications.
  • Perform blanket cutting, layup, stitching, taping, trimming, and hardware installation.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and manufacturing specifications.
  • Inspect fabricated components for compliance with quality and workmanship standards.
