About The Position

As Edlong’s Technician – Global Sensory, you will help the Global Sensory department achieve its annual business objectives by executing sensory research studies. Reporting directly to Scientist – Global Sensory, you will be responsible for coordinating tests by making samples, portioning samples, setting up test designs using Compusense Cloud, and cleaning up after the panel. The candidate must be adaptable and demonstrate a strong interest in sensory perception and interactions. Support the Global Sensory team with the completion of sensory and related R&D projects by coordinating sample preparation, test execution, and data collection under the guidance of project leaders. Operate and maintain sensory booths and equipment according to established procedures. Prepare samples for sensory panels to profile new flavors released to the line for each flavor in support of the Commercial teams. Track panelist attendance and performance to maintain engaged panelists with peak performance. Set up sensory test design and follow serving protocol using Compusense computer program. Engage actively in employee taste panels and other sensory training activities which include evaluating, tasting, and working with flavors for products including but not limited to dairy, soy, nuts, and eggs. Adhere to lab safety guidelines and manufacturer instructions to ensure safety when using laboratory/kitchen equipment and cleanliness within work areas to maintain a high quality of service to promote a clean and safe work environment and food safety to ensure safe samples for panelists to consume. Upkeep and maintain file documentations pertaining to assigned work in a way that self- and team can access as needed. Assist Application Scientists as needed for Dairy Taste Academy Sample Prep. Follow recipe and formulations to bake, cook, and prepare samples as needed using laboratory and pilot plant equipment. Actively participate in team meetings, sensory and related R&D activities, and continuous improvement. Procure and manage grocery supplies for the Global Sensory, Applications, Flavor Laboratory, and Applied Research department to ensure all necessary ingredients and materials are available for product development and testing. Prepare products for shipment by assembling, packing, and labeling samples in appropriate containers. Contribute to the Global Sensory’s team efforts, collaboration, and results by following Edlong’s guidelines, supporting departmental objectives, and aligning with the Corporate Mission, Vision, and Strategic goals. Maintain and enhance professional and technical knowledge base of Edlong personnel by sponsoring or attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks to stay up to date on current trends related to statistical techniques or any relevant applications. Requirements

  • A high school diploma with relevant work experience and/or training within a technical role like a lab technician.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend written, electronic, and spoken instructions, memos, and correspondence, and to communicate professionally in English both verbally by phone and electronically.
  • Ability to actively listen to customer needs and respond with appropriate product proposals to meet demands.
  • Ability to effectively present and cross functionally communicate information in one-on-one, large, and small group situations to customers, clients, or other employees.
  • Ability to comply with procedures in completing written documentation and compile data into reports and summaries from sales or calls.
  • Ability to perform, compute mathematical operations with a calculator, and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to perform, compute mathematical operations, and apply concepts such as money, weight, volume, and distance to create and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to analytically measure small quantities (as low as 1/1000th of a gram) accurately.
  • Ability to work independently to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to develop positive customer relationships and respond to inquiries or complaints from customers in a proactive manner.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form, deal with several abstract and concrete variables, and analyze results from comparison and other sensory tests.
  • Ability to handle confidential information (i.e., IP assets, etc.) in a professional manner.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook).
