About The Position

As a Fireproofing Applications Technician, you’ll play a critical role in applying intumescent and cementitious fireproofing products to test articles with precision and efficiency. You’ll ensure samples are completed accurately, delivered on schedule, and meet the highest quality standards. This hands-on position requires strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform all duties of an application technician, including maintaining and operating specialized spray equipment. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of laboratory experience, or a combination of relevant education and laboratory experience.
  • Must successfully pass a Jaeger Eye Test.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and utilize personal protective equipment.
  • Must pass annual respirator medical evaluation and pulmonary function test per OSHA standards; respirator use required at least 40% of the time.
  • Comfortable working with a variety of chemicals and materials, including epoxies, fiberglass, zincs, urethanes, phenolics, coal tars, polyurethanes, isocyanates, and more.
  • Skilled in operating, repairing, and maintaining equipment requiring strong hand-eye coordination, including airless pumps, sandblasting tools, welding equipment, and power saws.

  • Additional college coursework, including chemistry, is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Mastering surface preparation and application techniques for intumescent and cementitious fireproofing products.
  • Setting up and operating spray equipment for in-house demonstrations, training sessions, evaluations, and special projects.
  • Ensuring all panels meet rigorous standards outlined in the Applications Department Quality Control Procedures Manual.
  • Proactive maintenance and repair of spray equipment, spray booths, blast cabinets, pin welders, and hand/power tools.
  • Representing Carboline in the field with short-term travel for demonstrations, training, troubleshooting, and sales support.
  • Operating and optimizing mixing equipment, airless and conventional spray systems, and other tools to deliver flawless product applications.
  • Interpreting surface preparation standards and showcasing inspection techniques.
  • Assisting with evaluations of new or revised products and equipment.
  • Managing panel orders from Sales Representatives and Technical Service teams, including scheduling and shipping.
  • Ordering and stocking materials and supplies for seamless department operations.
  • Maintaining a hazard-free work environment and adhering to all safety and environmental regulations.
  • Hazard recognition, injury prevention, and prompt incident reporting.
  • Following all hazardous material and waste management guidelines.
  • Completing annual RCRA Hazardous Waste and Contingency Plan training and applying this knowledge daily.
