About The Position

This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing irrigation systems to ensure proper exterior system function. The technician will also perform seasonal maintenance, operate heavy equipment and vehicles, and respond to work order requests. They will use electronic devices to complete work orders, maintain documentation, and create reports. Safety procedures, adherence to policies, and effective communication with various stakeholders are crucial. The role also involves seasonal exterior maintenance like snow and ice management, evaluating replacement needs, implementing sustainable upgrades, and coordinating with Home Office support for equipment standardization. Vehicle maintenance and safe operation are also key responsibilities, along with leading and participating in teams, developing processes, and demonstrating compliance with company policies and values. Requirements

  • Option 1: 1 year’s experience in material handling equipment, or related area.
  • Option 2: 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in landscaping/irrigation with plumbing and electrical troubleshooting
  • Experience interpreting design drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Experience with water conservation practices.
  • Proficiency in speaking and understanding Spanish.
  • State/local licensing where required (for example, Florida, Texas, California).

Responsibilities

  • Installs irrigation system components, including controllers, wiring, valves, heads, rotors, bubblers, drip lines, and potable or non-potable piping.
  • Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs irrigation systems by conducting pressure testing, trenching, pulling pipe, adjusting equipment, and restoring system performance.
  • Performs seasonal maintenance activities (for example, winterizing irrigation systems, completing start up procedures in spring).
  • Operates heavy equipment, vehicles, and specialized tools safely while performing routine and complex maintenance tasks.
  • Uses heavy machinery.
  • Responds to work order requests through various communication methods and prioritizes tasks based on business needs and facility requirements.
  • Uses devices (for example, phones, tablets, laptops) to complete work orders, update logs, verify small print information, and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Creates reports and other written documentation using electronic devices or traditional writing instruments.
  • Locates and enters information in electronic systems to support workflow and task completion.
  • Follows safety procedures, responds to work orders, completes documentation, and coordinates with managers, coworkers, customers, and other business partners using verbal, written, and electronic communication methods.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by following all safety policies and procedures and reporting safety violations to leadership.
  • Ensures tools, vehicles, trailers, and equipment remain in proper working condition through inspections, inventory routines, and scheduled maintenance.
  • Observes associate, customer, or supplier behavior to support a safe operational environment.
  • Works in environments requiring exposure to varying temperatures, extreme heat or cold, wet or drafty conditions, slippery surfaces, confined spaces, and uneven ground.
  • Works at heights, including roofs, scaffolding, and ceiling spaces, and overnight or varying hours as required.
  • Coordinates assignments with managers, associates, customers, and external partners to meet timelines and service expectations.
  • Obtains quotes for services, recommends system upgrades, and supports prioritization of equipment replacement.
  • Communicates effectively in person or using telecommunication equipment to present information to individuals or groups.
  • Demonstrates and promotes compliance with policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Performs seasonal exterior maintenance activities, including snow and ice management, by operating snow removal equipment, applying de-icing materials, clearing walkways, drives, and exterior areas, and supporting winter preparedness and response activities to maintain safe facility conditions.
  • Evaluates current and future replacement needs (for example, mulch, rock, trees, shrubs, sod replacement).
  • Implements upgrades to convert the facility into a sustainable unit.
  • Explores potential improvements to lower operating costs.
  • Coordinates with Home Office support to standardize equipment and reduce on-hand stock.
  • Sources tool and equipment purchases to perform repairs.
  • Ensures completed work meets quality and safety requirements.
  • Observes and adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Reports all safety violations to management.
  • Ensures all assigned equipment, tools, safety items, vehicles, trailers, and other items are maintained in proper working order by following proper maintenance and inventory schedules.
  • Performs other facility-related maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Operates and maintains corporate vehicles, including box trucks, in a safe and compliant manner by adhering to all safety requirements.
  • Conducts required pre-trip, in-route, and post-trip inspections of mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment.
  • Reports maintenance or safety concerns in accordance with company policies.
  • Maintains vehicles in working mechanical (basic maintenance) and cleanliness condition.
  • Coordinates and takes vehicles for required maintenance, ensuring beforehand that alternate driving support is arranged.
  • Safely operates motor vehicles and ensures vehicles have all the required documents.
  • Checks fuel and water levels, brake condition, signals, and lights.
  • Submits maintenance invoices for payment.
  • Verifies the coverage and validity of vehicle insurance.
  • Wears company uniform and badge according to company policies and procedures.
  • Operates, inspects, and maneuvers heavy machinery and powered equipment (for example, forklifts, material handling equipment, industrial machines, shop equipment, vehicles) in accordance with training, certification requirements, and safety procedures.
  • Performs pre-operation safety checks and post-operation inspections to ensure equipment is safe, functional, and compliant with applicable standards.
  • Identifies unsafe conditions, equipment malfunctions, or potential hazards and takes appropriate corrective action or escalates as required.
  • When not in use, ensure vehicles are properly locked, keys are stored per protocol, and vehicles are available for inspection or reassignment as needed.
  • Parks all assigned work vehicles at the designated Walmart parking location(s) as outlined by Walmart policies.
  • Leads and participates in teams by using and sharing resources, information, and tools; determining customer needs and business priorities; coordinating and executing work assignments; providing advice, feedback, and support to ensure timelines and work quality are achieved; and modeling and helping others with how to adapt to change or new challenges.
