About The Position

The (USA) Technician, Facility Services, HVAC-Refrigeration, is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems in commercial and industrial settings. This role involves diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and performing preventive maintenance to optimize system performance. The Technician collaborates with management and team members to deliver quality service, leads and mentors less-experienced staff, and manages service calls efficiently. Adherence to operational standards and effective communication with customers are essential to support facility operations and sustainability goals. The Lead Technician team within Facility Services, Exterior Services, ensures the reliable operation and maintenance of Walmart facilities nationwide. This team collaborates with management and business partners to prioritize tasks, troubleshoot issues, and implement effective solutions while adhering to safety and environmental standards. Members apply expertise in preventive maintenance, equipment repair, and resource management to support continuous improvement and operational excellence. Requirements

  • Proven experience installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems in commercial or industrial settings.
  • Ability to interpret layout plans, schematics, and building codes to ensure accurate system configuration.
  • Skilled in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues and implementing preventive maintenance programs.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards and EPA 608 refrigerant handling protocols.
  • Competence in operating heavy machinery and company vehicles safely and responsibly.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively explain technical issues and collaborate with team members and customers.
  • Capability to lead and mentor technicians while managing escalated service issues.
  • Vocational or technical HVAC/R certification and 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls OR 4 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls or related field.
  • Hold and maintains Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
  • Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass motor vehicle report.
  • Ability to read and speak the English language as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
  • Completion of a 2-year Vocational or Technical HVAC/R program
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Mechanical license in city and/or state where job is located
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and calibrate HVAC and refrigeration systems, including ductwork, control panels, and building pneumatics, ensuring compliance with building codes and operational specifications.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues in commercial and industrial systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on refrigeration units, walk-ins, reach-ins, and rack systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Conduct inspections and service activities following OSHA standards and EPA refrigerant handling protocols.
  • Lead and mentor field teams, providing technical guidance and promoting safety practices.
  • Manage service calls, coordinate with external providers, and maintain accurate documentation and inventory.
  • Operate company vehicles safely to complete service assignments within assigned regions.
