About The Position

You’ll be part of a team that collaborates to provide reactive and preventative maintenance for all supermarket equipment within your designated trades. As a technician, you’ll have a semi-independent work environment where you’ll service all HVAC/R supermarket equipment, both with and without support. This role requires self-motivation and the ability to complete tasks independently from start to finish while adhering to company protocols. The equipment you’ll be responsible for includes, but is not limited to: - Refrigeration: DX parallel racks, secondary and primary CO2, secondary glycol, self-contained units, RCUs, walk-in and reach-in coolers/freezers. - HVAC: RTUs, AHUs, exhaust fans - BMS: Sensors, controllers and lighting controls

Requirements

  • Vocational or technical HVAC/R certification and 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls.
  • 4 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls or related field.
  • Hold and maintains Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
  • Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass motor vehicle report.
  • Ability to read and speak the English language as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
  • Completion of a 2-year Vocational or Technical HVAC/R program
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Mechanical license in city and/or state where job is located
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and Installs HVAC and refrigeration systems, including ductwork, control panels, and building pneumatics.
  • Configures and calibrates low ambient systems and direct digital controls to meet operational specifications.
  • Interprets layout plans and schematics to ensure accurate system setup and compliance with building codes.
  • Diagnoses and resolves mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues across commercial and industrial systems.
  • Implements preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and minimize downtimes.
  • Maintains and repairs rack systems, walk-ins, reach-ins, and supermarket refrigeration units.
  • Ensures the proper operation of HVAC systems and Energy Management Systems by performing routine checks, identifying issues, and coordinating necessary maintenance or repairs under manager and training technician supervision.
  • Uses heavy machinery.
  • Adheres to OSHA standards and EPA 608 refrigerant handling protocols during all service activities.
  • Conducts inspections and repairs in compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R regulations, including cold chain and indoor air quality requirements.
  • Reclaims ozone-depleting refrigerants and ensures proper documentation of refrigerant usage.
  • Leads field teams and mentors less-experienced Technicians and Apprentices on technical procedures and safety practices.
  • Communicates effectively with customers to explain technical issues and service outcomes.
  • Manages escalated service issues and coordinates with external service providers as needed.
  • Receives and follows instructions from Managers and Training Technicians to perform assigned tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Assists in implementing training plans and operational procedures as directed by Managers and Training Technicians.
  • Drives a company vehicle to complete service calls and manage operational needs within an assigned region.
  • Participates in an on-call rotation to support business critical needs outside of standard business hours.
  • During assigned on-call periods, responds in a timely manner to incidents or requests and supports issue resolution or appropriate escalation as needed.
  • Coordinates service calls and manages workload using digital tools and scheduling systems.
  • Tracks refrigerant levels, parts inventory, and vendor relationships to ensure resource availability.
  • Submits warranty claims, expense reports, and work orders to support financial sustainability.
  • Completes work assignments and priorities following directions and/or guidance from Manager or Training Technician in HVAC/R service by using HVAC/R policies, data, and resources.
  • Collaborates with management, co-workers, customers, and other business partners.
  • Works or trains at multiple facilities or distant locations.
  • Maintains company vehicles in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and transports vehicles for required maintenance, ensuring beforehand that alternate driving support is arranged.
  • Safely operates motor vehicles and ensures that the vehicle has all required documents.
  • Checks fuel and water levels, brake condition, signals, and lights.
  • Submits maintenance invoices for payment.
  • Verifies the coverage and validity of vehicle insurance.
  • Wears company uniform and badge in accordance with company policies and procedures.
