The IDD CAD Technician will support the technical team by producing temporary works and construction methods drawings and 3D models within Aecon’s Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD) Common Data Environment (CDE). The role ensures all deliverables are produced accurately, adhere to design criteria and CAD/BIM standards, and are well documented and controlled throughout their lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in CAD/drafting, civil or structural engineering technology, architectural technology, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years’ CAD drafting experience, ideally supporting construction, temporary works, or heavy civil / infrastructure projects
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D; experience with Autodesk Revit and Navisworks is an asset
  • Experience working within a Common Data Environment (CDE) such as Autodesk Construction Cloud (BIM 360 / ACC), ProjectWise or similar
  • Familiarity with temporary works (formwork, falsework, shoring, hoarding, access) and/or construction methods and sequencing
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches and specifications
  • Understanding of ISO 19650 information management principles and BIM workflows is an asset
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and document-control discipline
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary technical team

Responsibilities

  • Produce 2D drawings and 3D models for temporary works (formwork, falsework, shoring, hoarding, access and excavation support) to support the technical team
  • Develop construction methods, sequencing and site logistics drawings (site setup, crane and equipment locations, laydown areas, access and egress) from engineering markups and sketches
  • Interpret engineering drawings, sketches and design intent to prepare accurate, coordinated CAD deliverables
  • Manage drawings and models within Aecon’s IDD Common Data Environment (CDE), following the correct workflows, file naming and status (WIP, Shared, Published) in line with ISO 19650 and project standards
  • Maintain version control, revision history and clear documentation for all deliverables in the CDE
  • Coordinate temporary works models with the wider IDD-BIM team and check for clashes against the permanent works
  • Prepare drawing packages for temporary works design reviews, permits and site issue, incorporating markups and review comments
  • Support the technical team with quantity take-offs and material information extracted from models
  • Maintain CAD and BIM standards, templates and content libraries for temporary works and construction methods
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by his/her supervisor
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with engineers, project teams and site staff to confirm requirements and resolve queries
  • Other duties as required.
