About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is hiring a Technician A-C for the Inland Fisheries Hatchery System at Booker Fowler Fish Hatchery. The position supports the management, conservation, protection, enhancement, and promotion of Louisiana’s inland fisheries resources through hatchery operations, fish production and stocking, pond care, and grounds and equipment maintenance. Some overnight travel may be required. The position participates in a Career Progression Group. Salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Requirements

• No experience or training is required.
• Ability to perform moderate to strenuous physical activity, including lifting objects over 50 pounds, hand-dragging seines over slippery and irregular lake and pond bottoms, and working from boats in inclement weather.
• A criminal background check is required for selected applicants.
• Official documentation must verify any degrees, certificates, special licenses, or DD-214 before hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform fish culture and grounds maintenance, including fish care, feeding, handling, production, population estimates, sampling, transport, and stocking.
• Care for and prepare ponds, apply fertilizer, monitor water quality, and harvest ponds.
• Respond to hatchery equipment breakdowns, power outages, and changing biochemical conditions associated with aquaculture.
• Operate boats, motor vehicles, computers, and sampling equipment; maintain and calibrate equipment.
• Participate in aquatic plant control programs as needed.
• Perform general hatchery equipment, pond, and grounds maintenance.
